As Merrin is dragged under, the tentacles release their grip on her legs, and she sinks into the darkness. The water pressure increases, and she feels her lungs burning. She manages to hold her breath, her eyes wide with terror, as the tentacled horror pulls her further down. The creature's gaze flicks towards Seraphine, who stands frozen in the water, her eyes fixed on Merrin's disappearing form. A loud crack echoes through the water, and the ground beneath Seraphine gives way. She stumbles, nearly falling into the depths, as the chamber erupts in a cloud of silt and debris. The bioluminescent creatures on the walls seem to pulse with excitement, casting an eerie glow on the chaos unfolding before her. Suddenly, the water around her begins to churn violently, and a massive wave crashes towards her, threatening to engulf her.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I feel a surge of panic as I'm dragged down into the depths, the tentacles tightening their grip on my limbs. My lungs burn and my vision starts to blur, black spots dancing at the edges of my sight. I know I don't have much time left. With a final burst of strength, I reach out towards Seraphine, our fingers brushing against each other before the current pulls me away once more. "Find... Varikka..." I gasp, my voice barely audible through the water. "Tell her... I'm sorry..."

And with that, I'm pulled down into the abyss, the tentacles tightening their grip as they drag me towards an unknown fate. The last thing I see is the faint glow of Seraphine's magic, a distant light in the darkness as I'm consumed by the depths of the lake.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I watch in horror as Merrin is dragged down into the depths by the tentacled horror, her desperate words echoing in my mind even as they are lost to the roaring water. The creature's gaze flicks towards me, its eyes gleaming with an unsettling intelligence, and I feel a chill run down my spine that has nothing to do with the cold water. The ground beneath my feet shifts again, and I stumble, nearly falling into the churning abyss where Merrin vanished just moments ago. A massive wave crashes towards me, threatening to engulf me entirely.
I raise my hands, muttering a quick incantation under my breath. A shimmering barrier of force springs up around me, deflecting the brunt of the wave, but it's a temporary solution at best. I need to find Varikka and get out of here before this entire place collapses on top of us.
I turn, trying to get my bearings in the swirling darkness of the chamber, when a sudden flash of light catches my eye. There, on one of the walls, a previously hidden section has been revealed by the movement of the water. It looks like another tunnel, smaller and more narrow than the one we first entered, but it could be our only way out now.
"I found something!" I call out, my voice barely audible over the groaning of the stone and the roaring of the water. I start to wade towards the new passage, my robes heavy with the weight of the water.
Just as I reach the opening, however, a loud crack echoes through the chamber, and a massive section of the ceiling collapses nearby. The resulting shockwave sends me stumbling forward, and I fall through the narrow entrance, tumbling head over heels down a steep slope. I land hard on the stone floor at the bottom, my head spinning from the impact and the disorientation of the sloping floor.
I push myself up to my knees, groaning as I try to clear my vision. The water here is shallow, but it's running in a steady stream down the incline, carrying bits of debris with it. I can see that this tunnel leads deeper into the tower, away from the main chamber where Merrin was lost and Varikka might still be trapped.
I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I know I have to press on, find a way back to Varikka, and escape before this entire place comes down around our ears. But every step feels like a gamble now, a risk against an unknown magic that seems intent on crushing us all.
