Round 82 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As I step into the narrow passage, the water rushes around my ankles, cold and unforgiving. The faint light flickers from within, casting eerie shadows on the walls, making it seem as if the darkness itself is moving. Suddenly, the sound of scraping stone grows louder, and I can feel the ground tremble beneath my feet. The creatures' cries echo in my ears, a haunting reminder of the horrors we left behind. As I take another step forward, the water level rises, threatening to fill the space between me and the wall. The ground continues to shift and groan, making it clear that the structure above us is collapsing in earnest. I hear a faint splashing noise coming from deeper within the passage, followed by the sound of Varikka struggling against the tentacled horror. I must decide whether to investigate the source of the sound or retreat back to the platform, where Merrin and Seraphine are waiting. The rustling noise grows louder, and I can feel a presence moving closer. The air is thick with the smell of damp stone and something metallic, making my stomach churn. The ground trembles beneath my feet, and I realize that whatever is making the noise is moving closer, its grip tightening around Varikka.
My heart races as I step into the narrow passage, the water rushing around my ankles. The faint light flickers from within, casting eerie shadows on the walls and making it seem as if the darkness itself is moving. Suddenly, the sound of scraping stone grows louder, and I can feel the ground tremble beneath my feet.
I take another step forward, my hand outstretched to steady myself on the rough stone wall. As I do, I notice that the water level has risen slightly, threatening to fill the space between me and the wall. The ground continues to shift and groan, making it clear that the structure above us is collapsing in earnest.
Suddenly, I hear a faint splashing noise coming from deeper within the passage, followed by the sound of Varikka struggling against the tentacled horror. My heart races as I realize how close we are to losing her completely.
I know I should be looking for a way out of here, but the thought of leaving Varikka to her fate is unbearable. She's been through so much already, and I can't imagine how terrified she must be right now. But at the same time, I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched, that something else is lurking in the shadows, waiting for us to let our guard down.
I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I know I need to be smart about this, to think things through before I act. But the urge to rush forward, to do something, anything, to help Varikka is almost overwhelming.
I take another step forward, my hand tightening on the hilt of my mace. Whatever comes next, I know we're not getting out of here without a fight. And if that means facing whatever horrors lurk in the depths of this tower, then so be it.
I stand frozen at the mouth of the narrow passage, the cold water swirling around my ankles, as the sounds of Varikka's desperate struggle echo from within the darkness. My heart hammers against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat of fear and urgency. Every instinct screams at me to rush forward, to throw myself into the fray and do whatever I can to save her, but the cold logic that has kept me alive this long holds me back.
The ground beneath my feet trembles again, a low, ominous rumble that seems to vibrate right through my bones. The sound of scraping stone is getting louder, closer, and I can feel a presence moving through the water towards me. It's not human, that much I know for certain. A shiver runs down my spine as I picture what it might be: some nightmarish denizen of this accursed place, summoned by our trespassing or the breaking of its ancient wards.
I take a shaky breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts. Merrin's cries from deeper within the passage are growing more distant now, lost in the cacophony of falling stone and rushing water. She's moving on, searching for an escape route, but that leaves me alone with whatever is stalking through this labyrinth of death.
I grip my staff tighter, the polished wood suddenly feeling fragile in my hands. It's not much of a weapon against whatever horrors await us here, but it's all I have. And then there’s Seraphine, still trapped somewhere in the depths with Varikka. The thought of leaving her behind is almost as unbearable as the thought of losing Varikka.
I have to act. I can't just stand here waiting for whatever is coming to find me. With a deep breath, I take a step forward into the passage, the water now rising past my knees. The light from the torches on the platform behind me flickers and dims as the walls close in around me, plunging me into near-total darkness. I am completely alone now, facing whatever fate this cursed place has in store for me.
