The water rose with terrifying speed, now waist-deep in the main chamber where Seraphine had descended moments earlier. The stone stairs leading down were slick with moisture, each step treacherous underfoot as she descended carefully. At the bottom, a narrow corridor branched off to her left—darkness beyond, punctuated by faint glowing eyes that seemed to float in the blackness. She drew her sword instinctively, the steel scraping softly against its sheath as she held it ready.

"Halie?" Seraphine called out cautiously, her voice echoing back to her from the stone walls. "Merrin? Varikka?" No answer came save for the distant sound of rushing water and something heavy shifting deep within the structure. The air here felt wrong—cold and thick with an ancient, oppressive presence that made her skin crawl.

She took a step toward the glowing eyes when suddenly, the entire chamber shook violently. Dust rained down from above as stone groaned in protest. A section of ceiling near where Merrin had been standing crumbled away with a roar, sending a cascade of debris into the churning waters below. Seraphine stumbled back instinctively, nearly losing her footing on the slick stairs. Whatever held Varikka underwater was now thrashing violently, and she could hear Merrin's panicked voice shouting something she couldn't make out over the chaos.

"Shit!" Seraphine hissed, knowing they were running out of time. She had to find a way back to help them—or at least warn Halie about what was happening—before this entire tower came crashing down around them all. The corridor with glowing eyes beckoned, promising escape or death equally likely.
