Merrin's voice echoes off the chamber walls as she calls out for her friend once more, "Merrin!" The water laps gently against the stones, and the skeletal remains float serenely on its surface, their glowing eyes watching her with an unblinking malevolence. As she takes another step forward, the current grows stronger, pulling at her legs and threatening to sweep her under. A wave crashes against the shore, sending a plume of spray high into the air. The tower's collapse rumbles above, its final moments of groaning stone and crashing debris now mere seconds away.

I wade deeper into the underground lake, my heart pounding in my chest as I scan the shadows for any sign of Merrin. The water swirls around me, cold and treacherous, threatening to sweep me off my feet at any moment. Skeletal remains float on its surface, their glowing eyes fixed unblinkingly on mine as if daring me to look away. "Merrin!" I call out again, my voice echoing off the chamber walls. "Merrin, where are you?!"

But there's no answer, only the gentle lapping of the water and the distant rumble of collapsing masonry from above. A wave crashes against the shore, sending a plume of spray high into the air, and I stagger back, nearly losing my balance in the sudden surge. The tower's collapse rumbles above, its final moments of groaning stone and crashing debris now mere seconds away. I have to move faster, have to find a way through this lake and hope that somewhere in the depths of this cursed place, I'll find a path back to my friend. But with each step forward, the water grows deeper, the current stronger, and the danger more palpable. Whatever touched me before is still out there, lurking beneath the surface, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. And still, the tower groans ominously above, its collapse now a matter of seconds rather than minutes. I grit my teeth and push onward, staff held out before me like a ward against the evil that seems to seep from every pore of this wretched place. Merrin is out there somewhere, and I won't rest until I've searched every inch of this accursed lake to find her. Even if it means facing whatever horrors lurk beneath its surface. But deep down, a part of me knows it's already too late. That we're all just pawns in some twisted game played by forces beyond our understanding or control. And that the only mercy left for us now is a swift end, before we can feel the full weight of our failures and losses. I take another step forward into the waiting darkness of the underground lake, my heart heavy with the knowledge that Merrin may already be lost to me forever. But I have to try anyway, have to keep moving until I find her or until this place claims me too. It's all I have left now—the desperate hope that somewhere in the depths of this nightmare, there's still a chance for salvation. For Merrin, for myself, for whatever twisted shreds of our companions might yet remain. And so I wade on, staff held high and eyes scanning the shadows, as the tower groans its final death throes above and the water swirls with an eerie, unnatural glow around my feet.
