As Merrin runs through the collapsing tunnel, the sound of falling stone grows louder and the air fills with dust. She can't shake the image of Jeane's face, her eyes pleading for help as they were pulled under by the churning waters. Suddenly, the tunnel opens up into a large underground chamber, and Merrin sees a glimmer of light coming from the far side. However, as she approaches, she realizes it's not a way out – it's a massive underground lake, its surface choppy with waves. The water is knee-deep, and Merrin can see the skeletal remains of creatures floating on the surface, their eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.

I stand frozen in the entrance to this vast underground chamber, my heart hammering against my ribs as I take in the nightmarish sight before me. The air here is thick with the stench of damp earth and something else—something foul and ancient that chills me to my core. The water in the lake at the center of the room swirls with an eerie, unnatural glow, reflecting the skeletal remains of creatures long dead, their eye sockets glinting with a malevolent intelligence. Every instinct screams at me to turn back, to flee this place before whatever madness lurks within claims another victim. But Merrin is somewhere out there in that collapsing labyrinth of tunnels, and I have to find her, no matter the cost. The thought of losing her too, after everything we've been through together... it's a grief I can’t even begin to contemplate right now. With a deep breath, I steel myself and take a tentative step forward into the water, my staff held out before me like a ward against the evil that seems to seep from every pore of this wretched place. "Merrin!" My voice echoes off the chamber walls, thin and reedy with fear. But there's no answer except the gentle lapping of the water against the stones and the distant rumble of collapsing masonry from the tower above. I have to keep moving, to find a way through this lake and hope that somewhere in the depths of this cursed place, I'll find a path back to my friend.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I wade into the underground lake with a shudder of revulsion, my skin crawling at the skeletal remains and glowing eyes floating on its surface. The water is shockingly cold, instantly leeching heat from my body, and I can feel the tower groaning and settling around us, its collapse mere minutes away now. I have to move fast if I'm going to have any hope of finding Merrin before it all comes down. But with each step forward, the water grows deeper, soon rising past my waist and making progress a struggle. I have to fight against the current, using my staff for balance as I wade through the murky depths. Suddenly, something brushes against my leg under the water, sending a jolt of fear through me. I yank my foot back, nearly losing my balance in the process, and peer into the darkness beneath the surface. Whatever touched me is gone now, vanished back into the shadows, but I can't shake the feeling that I'm being watched. "Merrin!" I call out again, my voice echoing off the chamber walls. "Merrin, where are you?!"

But there's no answer, only the gentle lapping of the water and the distant rumble of collapsing masonry from above. A wave of despair washes over me as I realize the futility of my search—if Merrin is out there somewhere in this labyrinth of tunnels, she could be anywhere, lost or trapped or... no, I can't even let my mind go there. I have to keep moving, have to find a way through this lake and hope that somewhere in the depths of this cursed place, I'll find a path back to my friend. But with each step forward, the water grows deeper, the current stronger, and the danger more palpable. And still, the tower groans ominously above, its collapse now a matter of seconds rather than minutes. I grit my teeth and push onward, staff held out before me like a ward against the evil that seems to seep from every pore of this wretched place. Merrin is out there somewhere, and I won't rest until I've searched every inch of this accursed lake to find her. Even if it means facing whatever horrors lurk beneath its surface. But deep down, a part of me knows it's already too late. That we're all just pawns in some twisted game played by forces beyond our understanding or control. And that the only mercy left for us now is a swift end, before we can feel the full weight of our failures and losses. I take another step forward into the waiting darkness of the underground lake, my heart heavy with the knowledge that Merrin may already be lost to me forever. But I have to try anyway, have to keep moving until I find her or until this place claims me too. It's all I have left now—the desperate hope that somewhere in the depths of this nightmare, there's still a chance for salvation. For Merrin, for myself, for whatever twisted shreds of our companions might yet remain. And so I wade on, staff held high and eyes scanning the shadows, as the tower groans its final death throes above and the water swirls with an eerie, unnatural glow around my feet.
