Round 38 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As I finish channeling the arcane energy, the skeletal horrors stumble backward, their bony bodies cracking and shattering into a thousand pieces as they collapse to the ground. The released power washes over us, and the runes along the columns pulse with a newfound intensity, casting an otherworldly glow across the chamber. The water continues to rise, threatening to engulf us, but the sudden distraction has given us a temporary reprieve. The undead horror, however, is far from defeated. It shambles forward, its greatsword swinging in wide arcs, searching for an opening to strike. I realize that we can't hold out for much longer; the creature's sheer size and strength will eventually overwhelm us. The sound of crashing stone and groaning wood grows louder, a stark reminder that the structural collapse is closing in on us from all sides. We need to find a way out of this place, and fast. The question is, where can we go?
I shove Merrin back from the edge of the pit as another massive wave of water surges up, threatening to drag us both under—my wings beat frantically for balance as we stumble backward through the waist-deep flood. "The stairs are impossible—the undead thing is blocking them entirely now!" I shout over the roar of rushing water and collapsing stone. "We need a new route out of this chamber before it floods completely or collapses around us!" My eyes dart frantically across the space, searching for any alternative exit—when they land on that receding section of wall Merrin mentioned earlier. "There!" I point desperately. "The hidden passage behind that sliding wall—the runes reacted to my voice before, maybe we can open it manually or with another arcane surge!" I start wading toward the shifting stone panel, staff held high and ready. "Come on—if there's a secret exit somewhere, this has to be it!*"
The tower groans ominously around us as I approach the moving wall, fresh chunks of debris thudding into the rising water. "Hurry," I call back over my shoulder to Merrin. "Whatever's in that passage might be better than drowning down here with whatever monstrosities are still alive!"
I splash through the rising water toward the shifting wall panel, my eyes fixed on the runes still pulsing ominously along its surface. "You're right," I call out breathlessly to Jeane. "If there's any way out of this tomb, it has to be behind that damned thing!"
As I draw closer, the runes seem to brighten even more, almost as if they're responding to my approach. I can feel the arcane energy thrumming through the air around us, raising the hairs on the back of my neck. "Careful," I warn Jeane as she waves her staff near the wall. "We don't know what kind of wards or traps might be tied to that magic."
I reach out with one hand, fingers brushing against the stone surface of the shifting panel. It's moving again, I report, feeling the vibration travel up my arm. "Not much time left before it seals shut completely!"
The undead horror looms behind us, its greatsword still sweeping back and forth as it lurches through the rising water. "Jeane!" I yell, pointing with my free hand. "That thing is coming around—we need to hurry!"
I press both palms flat against the wall now, trying to sense any hidden mechanisms or pressure points that might open it. "Come on, you bastard," I mutter under my breath. "Give us a way out of this hellhole!"
