The runes on the gate flared brighter, their ancient symbols twisting into more sinister shapes that seemed to writhe across the stone surface. Merrin dropped into a crouch, her hand already reaching for her crossbow as she scanned the darkness ahead, the ground shifting ominously beneath her feet once more.

This isn't just a simple dungeon delve, she thought, her heart pounding in her chest. Whatever magic is at work here is ancient and powerful, and it doesn't want us inside. The air within the tower seemed to thicken, growing colder by the second as an ominous silence settled over everything.

Focus, she told herself, checking the priming mechanism of her crossbow. Find high ground or cover before whatever was behind that gate recovers.

Jeane stood frozen near the entrance of the tower, her wings tucked tightly against her back in a futile attempt to minimize their span in the cramped space. This is madness! We should never have come here!

Halie’s barrier flickered dangerously, and Jeane's eyes widened with genuine concern for her companion.

She can't keep that up much longer, Jeane thought, watching as Varrika charged forward into the darkness beyond the gate. The ground shifted again, tilting dramatically this time, and Jeane had to grab onto a nearby stone pillar to keep her balance.

Seraphine watched in horror as Varikka charged into the darkness beyond the gate, her mace held high. The ground beneath their feet shifted again, tilting dangerously, and she stumbled, barely catching herself on a nearby stone pillar. Halie’s barrier spell flickered wildly, its energy straining against the ancient magic that now seemed to be pushing them out of this place with a terrifying urgency.

Varikka! she shouted, her voice echoing off the stone walls. Stop! We need to regroup and assess the situation before—

The air within the tower seemed to thicken, growing colder by the second as an ominous silence settled over everything. The runes on the gate pulsed with a malevolent light, and a low, rumbling sound emanated from deep within the structure—a sound that spoke of ancient power waking after eons of slumber.

We've awakened something terrible, Seraphine realized with a chill that had nothing to do with the sudden drop in temperature. And it's not happy we're here.
