As the party breathes a sigh of relief at having bypassed the wards, a low, ominous chuckle echoes from the depths of the tower. The air seems to vibrate with malevolent energy as the ground beneath them begins to shift, causing the floor to slope downward into darkness. The skeletal horde, now momentarily stunned by the shattered wards, hesitates in their advance, giving the party a brief respite. Suddenly, Varikka's eyes widen in alarm as she stumbles forward, nearly losing her footing on the uneven ground. "Be careful, guys!" she cries out, grasping for the nearby wall to steady herself. "This floor is treacherous!"

I feel the ground shift beneath my feet, the ancient stone of the tower floor tilting as if trying to dump us into the depths below. I hear Varikka's warning just as I'm thrown off balance, my boots slipping on the suddenly sloped surface.
"Warnock, get ready for this!" I shout, grabbing her arm and hauling her against me so we can brace against each other's weight. "This whole place is coming down around us!"
My eyes dart to the gate, then back to the skeletal horde still advancing despite their momentary hesitation. The wards are broken, but that doesn't mean whatever's in here with us is any less dangerous now.
"We need to move!" I cry out, "If we're going to survive this, we have to keep pushing forward and hope we can find a way to stop this before it swallows us whole!"
I tighten my grip on Varikka's arm, feeling the solid strength of her muscles as she braces herself against me. "On three," I say, my voice tight with tension, "we make a run for that gate. Watch your step and don't let go of each other. We can't afford to get separated now."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for the mad dash ahead. "One... two..."
But before I can reach three, another scream echoes from the depths, this one so loud and filled with such unholy rage that it feels like it's boring into my skull. The skeletal horde falters once more, some of them crumbling to dust as if the very sound of that wail has stripped away what little animation they possessed.
"Now!" I shout, dragging Varikka with me as I lunge toward the gate, "Go, go, GO!"
We stagger through the opening, the ground tilting even more sharply beneath our feet as we fight to keep our balance. The corridor beyond is dark and narrow, the walls lined with more of those eerie runes that seem to pulse with an otherworldly light.

As the floor tilts beneath us, I feel my stomach lurch in protest, my heart hammering against my ribs as we stumble through the gate.
The runes lining the walls of this new corridor pulse with an eerie, shifting light, casting long shadows that seem to writhe and twist with a life of their own. It feels like we've just jumped from one nightmare into another.
"I think I know what's happening," I gasp out, my voice tight with fear as I try to steady myself against the sloped floor. "This isn't just a random collapse—it's a trap. A magical one."
I point a trembling finger at the runes, their strange patterns seeming to swirl and dance before my eyes. "Those symbols... they're not just decoration. They're part of the spell holding this place together. And if we're right about the wards being some kind of exchange, then maybe breaking them has thrown everything off balance."
My mind races as I try to piece together what I'm seeing, my academic training clashing with the sheer terror of our situation. "The tower itself... it might be a sentient construct, and now that we've forced our way inside without the proper 'key', it's trying to get rid of us. To expel us like a foreign body."
The ground shifts again, more violently this time, sending me crashing into Varikka’s back. We both go sprawling across the slick stone floor, struggling to find purchase as the world tilts around us.
"Everyone!" I cry out, my voice echoing in the narrow space, "We need to work together to find a way to counter this! If we can’t stop the spell, it will keep dumping us deeper and deeper into this place until—"
I don't finish the thought, unable to bear the image of what lies at the bottom of this magical maw. I scramble back to my feet, grabbing Varikka’s hand and hauling her up beside me.
"I need to see those runes up close," I say, my tone urgent as I push past her, my eyes fixed on the nearest wall. "If we can understand what this spell is doing, maybe we can reverse it."
But before I can take more than a few steps, another scream echoes through the air, closer now and filled with a bone-chilling rage. The sound seems to come from everywhere at once, vibrating in my teeth and setting every nerve ending on fire.
"Something... something is coming for us," I whisper, my voice dropping to a terrified murmur. "And it sounds like it wants us alive."

I stagger against the wall as the floor tilts, my vision swimming as I try to make sense of what’s happening. The wards are broken—I saw them shatter—but this… this is something else entirely. A magic so ancient and powerful it’s alive, trying to expel us like a disease.

“Wait!” I cry out, my voice hoarse with fear. “We can’t just—”
