Round 9

Phase: escalating

Varikka’s voice cuts through the tension. "We need to get out of here—now! We can't keep this up much longer." The creature's eyes flash with an eerie green flame as it staggers back, its rotting flesh beginning to regenerate at an alarming rate. Jeane's shadowy tendrils continue to wrap around its ankles, trying desperately to slow its advance. "Whatever's happening inside—inside the gate—that can't be good news," Jeane calls out, her voice strained with effort as she maintains control over the spell.
Merrin feels her stomach drop. The cracking of stone echoes from deeper within the tower, sending a jolt through the group. "Whatever's happening back there—inside the gate—it can't be good news," she thinks desperately. The creature's regeneration is already making their current fight untenable, and now they have to contend with whatever's breaking through the walls inside? Her demonic nature screams at her to flee, but her human will won't let her abandon her companions. The shadowy tendrils lash out again, seeking to trip or slow the creature's advance, but it seems almost impervious to such attacks. She can feel sweat beading on her forehead as she fights to maintain control over both the spell and her own terror.
Focus, damn you! Merrin hisses internally, sweat beading on her forehead as she fights to maintain control. The undead creature's eyes glow with an eerie green flame as it stumbles back from Varikka's blow, but only for a moment. Already its rotting flesh is beginning to reconstitute itself, the damage reversing before their eyes.
Jeane feels her heart pounding in her chest as she watches the undead creature raise its rotting hand towards Varikka once more, razor-sharp claws gleaming in the light of her spell. "The dwarf warrior is putting herself in harm's way—brave, but reckless," she thinks desperately. We need to keep this thing moving before it gets too close.
I feel the weight of my mace in my hands as I watch the undead monstrosity looming before us, its rotting flesh still regenerating despite our attacks. "Whatever's coming through that gate—we can't let it get past us," I growl, my voice tight with tension. My eyes flick to Jeane, her shadow tendrils still wrapped around the creature's legs. "Jeane—good thinking on trying to seal off the gate. But if you've got some kind of demonic power... maybe we can use that to our advantage here..."
I can feel the power building within my staff as I work to channel a spell capable of dealing with this undead abomination, but my focus is constantly threatened by the sound from deeper inside the tower. The cracking of stone sends a jolt through me, a primal fear that something far worse than this creature might be awakening within its walls.
I take a step back instinctively, my eyes fixed on the partially open gate as another loud crack echoes from within. "No... no, this isn't what I signed up for," I think desperately. The creature's regeneration is already making our current fight untenable, and now we have to contend with whatever's breaking through the walls inside? My demonic nature screams at me to flee, but my human will won't let me abandon my companions.

I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself as I consider our options. We can't keep this up much longer—not with the creature regenerating so quickly and now potential threats emerging from within the tower itself.
