Round 243 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Seraphine continues to gaze at the glowing symbols, her eyes begin to take on a glassy, far-off quality. The orb's energy still crackles around her fingertips, and Merrin can't help but feel a sense of unease as she watches her friend's expression. The chamber shudders again, the sound of crumbling stone growing louder. Jeane stumbles forward, her face pale and her eyes wild with pain. She tries to grab onto Merrin, but her hands only seem to pass through her friend's arm like mist. "Seraphine, snap out of it!" Jeane cries, her voice hoarse with exhaustion and fear. "We need to get moving, now!"
Merrin rushes to Jeane's side, trying to keep her upright as she stumbles towards the glowing path. The symbols seem to pulse with an otherworldly power, drawing them forward like a beacon. As they move, the chamber's instability grows more pronounced. The floor creaks ominously beneath their feet, and the walls seem to be closing in on them. It's clear that time is running out – they need to find a way out of this place before it collapses around them. "Come on, let's go!" Merrin urges, her voice barely above a whisper. "We can't trust Seraphine to keep us safe right now!"
I grab Jeane's arm, steadying her as she stumbles towards me. "Seraphine's not in her right mind," I hiss urgently, "that orb's magic is clouding her thoughts." The chamber shakes again, more violently this time, and I feel a surge of panic as the floor shifts beneath my feet. "We can't trust her to lead us out of here. We need to find our own way!"
I glance at the glowing path, my eyes narrowing with suspicion. Those symbols... they're too convenient. Too easy. It feels like a trap, waiting to spring shut on us the moment we step into its light. The orb's energy crackles around Seraphine's fingertips, casting an eerie glow over everything in the room. "Whatever that thing is," I mutter darkly, "it wants something from her. And I don't like the look of it."
Jeane clutches at my arm, her face pale and drawn. "I can't... I can't focus," she gasps, her words slurring together. "The circle... it's broken. My magic..."
I feel a pang of concern for my friend, but there's no time to dwell on it now. We need to move, and fast. "Lean on me," I say firmly, "we're getting out of here, one way or another."
I glance around the chamber, my rogue's eyes scanning for any hint of an alternative exit. The walls are closing in on us, the ceiling groaning ominously overhead. It's clear that this place is about to come crashing down around our ears. And yet... there's something nagging at the back of my mind. A feeling that we're missing something crucial.
I turn back to Seraphine, who stands transfixed by the orb's pulsing light. "Seraphine!" I call out, my voice cutting through the haze of magical energy. "What did you see? What did the orb show you?"
She blinks, her eyes slowly coming back into focus. "The way out..." she mumbles, her voice distant and dreamy, "a path leading to freedom. But it's... it's not just for us."
I frown, my grip on Jeane tightening. "What do you mean? Who else is involved in this?"
Seraphine shakes her head, as if trying to clear the cobwebs from her mind. "The spirit... the one we've been chasing all this time. It's... it's part of something bigger. A cycle of death and rebirth, stretching back centuries." Her eyes meet mine, and I see a flicker of the old Seraphine in them, sharp and intelligent even through the magical haze. "We're not the first to walk these halls, Merrin. And we won't be the last."
