Merrin's grip on Jeane's arm tightens as she steadies her friend. "Seraphine's not in her right mind," she hisses urgently, "that orb's magic is clouding her thoughts." The chamber shakes again, more violently this time, and Merrin feels a surge of panic as the floor shifts beneath her feet. "We can't trust her to lead us out of here. We need to find our own way!" She glances at the glowing path, her eyes narrowing with suspicion. Those symbols... they're too convenient. Too easy. It feels like a trap, but what choice do we have? The entire tower is coming down around their ears, and if they don't move fast, they'll be buried alive.

Jeane's face contorts with pain as she tries to speak, her voice barely audible over the groaning of the collapsing structure. "Merrin... I can't see straight. Everything is... wrong." She clutches at her head, her fingers digging into her scalp as if trying to hold something in. "The knowledge... it's too much. I can feel it eating away at my sanity." Her legs give out and she slumps against Merrin, her full weight resting on the smaller woman. "Help me... please..."

Merrin struggles under Jeane's weight but manages to keep them both upright. "I've got you," she grunts, her arms straining as she helps her friend stay standing. "We need to move. Now." She glances around the chamber, trying to spot any stable-looking exit routes amidst the shifting walls and crumbling ceiling. "There!" She points to a narrow passage on the opposite side, partially hidden by swirling dust and debris. "That looks like our best bet."

With one arm still supporting Jeane, Merrin starts half-dragging her friend towards the potential escape route. The ground beneath them trembles with each heavy step, and twice more the ceiling groans ominously above their heads. "Come on," she urges through gritted teeth, "we need to get out of here before this whole place comes down."

As they near the passage, Merrin spots something glinting in the dust and rubble scattered across the floor. She pauses for a moment, considering whether to investigate or press onward towards safety. The glint could be treasure... or it could be another trap. But with Jeane barely conscious and the entire chamber threatening to collapse at any second, the choice seems clear. "Almost there," she mutters, focusing on getting them both through the rapidly shrinking opening before it's too late.*

They stumble into the narrow passage just as a massive section of the ceiling behind them comes crashing down with a deafening roar. Merrin throws herself forward, using her body to shield Jeane from the falling debris. "Move!" she shouts, pushing them both deeper into the relative safety of the new corridor.

As they collapse onto the stone floor, gasping for breath, Merrin looks back at the blocked entrance with a mix of relief and apprehension. That was too close. But at least they're alive... for now. She turns her attention to Jeane, who's lying motionless beside her. "Jeane? Can you hear me?" She shakes her friend gently, worry etched on her face.* "Stay with me, okay? We need to keep moving."
