The chamber groaned like a beast in its death throes, ancient stone complaining under the strain of their desperate predicament. Merrin slammed into Jeane with enough force to knock the breath from both women, her wiry halfling frame clinging like a frightened kitten to the sorcerer's robes. "Jeane!" she gasped out, her voice hoarse with terror as she looked up at Halie still pulling frantically on the rope.
"Thanks," Merrin managed between ragged breaths, "but you've got to let go. The weight's too much—you'll pull both of us down!" She glanced around wildly, trying to make sense of their situation. The books that had been floating moments before now lay scattered across the floor, their pages rustling ominously in a wind that seemed to come from nowhere.
Seraphine stood frozen on the creaking catwalk above, her sharp eyes wide with apprehension as she watched the unfolding chaos below. The crystal on her breastplate pulsed rhythmically, each beat sending a visible shimmer through the air around them. "Merrin!" she called out, her voice barely carrying over the groans of stressed stone and creaking wood. "Can you hold on? We'll get you up!"
The elf's mind raced, trying to piece together what was happening here. The magic in this chamber felt ancient and wrong—malevolent energy that prickled across her skin like static before a storm. She glanced around frantically for any sign of Varrika, but the dwarven warrior seemed to have vanished into thin air.

Merrin feels a rush of pain through her body as she collides with Jeane, her breath knocked from her lungs. She clings to the sorcerer for dear life, fingers scrabbling at the woman's robes. "Jeane!" she gasps out, her voice hoarse with fear. Merrin looks up at Halie, who is still straining to pull on the rope. "Thanks," she manages to choke out, "but you've got to let go. The weight's too much—you'll pull both of us down!" She glances around frantically, trying to get her bearings... -
[Seraphine | Wizard]
I watch Merrin and Jeane struggle on the shifting platforms below, my heart pounding in my chest as I strain against the rope. "Merrin!" I call out, "Can you hold on? We'll get you up!" My mind races, trying to piece together what's happening here. The crystal on my breastplate pulses with an ominous rhythm, and I can feel a strange energy coursing through the air—an ancient magic that feels both powerful and malevolent. I glance around frantically for any sign of Varrika, but she seems to have vanished into thin air.
