Round 247 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The creature's body continues to writhe on the ground, its tentacles lashing out in all directions. As it contorts, the pulsating glow emanating from it grows brighter, casting an eerie light on the surrounding rocks. Suddenly, the humming noise reaches a deafening pitch, and the air seems to vibrate with energy. The creature's body begins to stretch and merge with the rocks around it, its tentacles snaking into crevices and fissures. The ground begins to crack, and a section of the rock face slides open, revealing a dark, abyssal void. The pool's magic surges towards Merrin and Varrika, filling the air with an intense, pulsating energy. Merrin's eyes widen as her greatest fear begins to manifest around her - a dark, twisted version of herself, its eyes glowing with malevolent intent. She takes a step back, her hand reaching for her crossbow, but it feels heavy, unresponsive in her hand. Varrika readies her mace, her eyes fixed on the creature, but her gaze lingers on Merrin, concern etched on her face.
I stare in horror at the twisted reflection of myself, its eyes glowing with malevolence. My hand reaches for my crossbow, but it feels heavy, unresponsive in my grip. "Varrika," I call out, my voice trembling with fear. "Something's wrong. I can't... I can't move properly."
The fighter's eyes dart between the creature and me, concern etched on her face. "Stay calm, Merrin," she says, her voice steady and reassuring. "We'll figure this out together."
I nod, trying to focus on her words, on the sound of her voice. But I can feel a sense of dread washing over me, a feeling that something is very, very wrong. The creature's tentacles continue to writhe and contort, merging with the rocks around us. And as the darkness closes in, I know that we're in for the fight of our lives. "Whatever this thing is," I mutter, my eyes fixed on my dark reflection, "it's not going to be easy to take down." I take a step forward, my footfalls echoing through the cavernous space. The creature's eyes bore into mine, its gaze full of malice and hunger. But I don't look away. I can't look away. "I've faced worse than this before," I say, my voice firm and determined. "And with you by my side, Varrika... we'll come out on top."
The fighter nods, her mace raised high. "You got that right, Merrin," she says, a smile playing at the corners of her lips. "We've got this thing on the ropes. Let's finish it off."
And with that, I raise my crossbow once more, ready to strike at the slightest provocation. Whatever horrors the Voice has in store for us... we'll overcome them. Together.
I watch as Merrin's dark reflection takes shape, its eyes glowing with malevolent intent. I can see the fear in her eyes, the way she reaches for her crossbow but can't seem to move properly. "Merrin," I call out, my voice low and urgent. "Stay with me. We'll get through this together."
I raise my mace, its heavy head glinting in the dim light. The creature's tentacles continue to writhe and contort, merging with the rocks around us. And as the darkness closes in, I know that we're in for the fight of our lives.
But I've faced worse than this before. In battle after battle, I've stood my ground against overwhelming odds. And with Merrin by my side... we can take on anything.
I take a step forward, my footfalls echoing through the cavernous space. The creature's eyes bore into mine, its gaze full of malice and hunger. But I don't look away. I can't look away. Not when Merrin's life may depend on it.
Whatever horrors the Voice has in store for us... we'll overcome them. Together.
And with that, I raise my mace once more, ready to strike at the slightest provocation. Whatever comes next... we'll face it head-on. Just like always.
