Phase: escalating

The air around the shimmering pool grows colder as Merrin and Varrika approach, the water's surface beginning to ripple with an otherworldly energy. Suddenly, the pool's magic surges, and a wave of distorted reality washes over them, making it difficult to discern what is real and what is not. The figure on the shore raises its hand again, and the rocks on the ground begin to rearrange themselves into a new pattern, spelling out a warning in bold letters: "Turn back now." Varrika's eyes narrow as she studies the rocks, her scarred hands gripping her mace tightly. "These aren't just stones," she growls, more to herself than Merrin. "There's a pattern here—a warning maybe." She glances at Merrin, her expression grim. "We need to figure this out before we do anything else. Who knows what kind of trap this could be?"
Merrin crouches low, her quick fingers tracing the outline of a symbol etched into the stone. "Aye," she murmurs, her dark eyes scanning the ground around them. "But we can't stay here forever either. The ground's shifting under our feet, and those torches won't last much longer." She pauses, a thought striking her. "Wait... do you remember seeing these symbols anywhere else in the tower? They look familiar somehow..." The cold water laps at their boots, a constant reminder of the precariousness of their situation.
