Round 239 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin and Varrika take another step forward, the hovering rocks suddenly drop to the ground with a loud clang, sending loose pebbles and dust swirling around their feet. The figure on the far shore remains still, but its hum grows louder, and the air around it begins to distort, as if reality itself is warping to accommodate its presence. Varrika's eyes narrow, her grip on her mace tightening as she takes a step closer to the figure. "What do you want?" she growls, her voice low and dangerous. The figure slowly turns to face them, its back still turned to the shore, but Varrika can sense a faint glow emanating from its form, like the soft pulsing of a lantern in the darkness. Merrin keeps a wary eye on the rocks, which now seem to be arranged in a deliberate pattern, as if they're trying to convey a message. She whispers to Varrika, "I think those rocks are trying to tell us something. Maybe we should investigate further before we approach the figure."
I squint at the arrangement of rocks, my mind racing as I try to decipher their meaning. It's almost as if they're forming a pattern, a message of some kind, but I can't quite make it out.
"Varrika, wait," I say, my voice low and urgent. "Those rocks... I think they're trying to tell us something. We need to take a closer look before we approach that figure."
I take a step towards the rocks, my hand still resting on the hilt of my crossbow. I can feel the weight of it in my hand, the smooth wood of the stock pressed against my palm. It's a comfort, a reminder that we have a way to defend ourselves if things go wrong.
"Whatever this thing is," I say, my voice tight with tension. "It's not going to be easy. We need to be careful, to take our time and think things through before we act."
I glance over at Varrika, my eyes meeting hers in a moment of shared understanding. We've faced many dangers together, but never anything quite like this.
"Varrika," I say, my voice low and urgent. "We need to be smart about this. Whatever this thing wants... whatever it is... we can't just rush in and hope for the best. We need a plan."
I take another step towards the rocks, my eyes fixed on their arrangement. I can feel the weight of the crossbow in my hand, the smooth wood of the stock pressed against my palm. It's a comfort, a reminder that we have a way to defend ourselves if things go wrong.
"Let's see what these rocks are trying to tell us," I say, my voice low and dangerous. "And then... then we'll figure out what to do about that thing over there."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever challenges may lie ahead. Whatever The Voice has in store for us, whatever horrors await us at the end of this tunnel - I know one thing for sure. Varrika and I will face them together. Just like always.
I nod slowly, my eyes fixed on the rocks. "Aye, you're right Merrin. We need to be smart about this."
I take a step towards the rocks, my hand still resting on the hilt of my mace. I can feel the weight of it in my hand, the smooth metal pressing against my palm. It's a comfort, a reminder that we have a way to defend ourselves if things go wrong.
As I approach the rocks, I can see that they are indeed arranged in a pattern, like the letters of an unknown language. I run my fingers over them, trying to decipher their meaning, but it's no use. Whatever this message is, it's not meant for us.
I glance over at Merrin, my eyes meeting hers in a moment of shared understanding. "Whatever this thing wants," I say, my voice low and dangerous. "It's not going to be easy. We need to be careful, to take our time and think things through before we act."
"Merrin," I say, my voice tight with tension. "Stay close to me. And be ready for anything."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever challenges may lie ahead. Whatever The Voice has in store for us, whatever horrors await us at the end of this tunnel - I know one thing for sure. Merrin and I will face them together. Just like always.
"Let's see what this thing wants," I say, my voice low and dangerous. "But be ready for anything. We don't know what we're up against here."
