Round 238 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varrika shrugs off her armor, Merrin keeps a watchful eye on the mysterious figure on the far shore. The figure remains still, its back turned to them, but Merrin can sense a faint hum of magic emanating from it. "I don't like this," Merrin whispers to Varrika, her hand resting on the hilt of her crossbow. "Let's get a fire started and dry off before we approach that... thing."
Varrika nods in agreement, but as she begins to gather dry tinder, a sudden gust of wind blows from the far shore, sending loose rocks tumbling down the slope towards them. The figure doesn't move, but its hum grows louder, and the rocks seem to slow in mid-air, hovering just inches from the ground before drifting harmlessly to the surface. Varrika's eyes narrow, her grip on her mace tightening. "What's going on?" she growls, her voice low and deadly.
My eyes dart back and forth between the unmoving figure and the hovering rocks, my heart pounding in my chest. I can feel the weight of my crossbow in my hand, but I know that firing it now would be a mistake.
"Varrika, wait," I hiss, my voice low and urgent. "Don't make any sudden moves. Whatever this is, it's not natural."
I take a step closer to the figure, my eyes narrowed as I try to make out its features in the dim light. But even as I do, the air around us seems to shimmer and distort, as if reality itself is bending and twisting.
"What is that thing?" I mutter under my breath, more to myself than to Varrika. "And what does it want with us?"
I can feel a sense of unease washing over me, a feeling that we're being watched, that something is very wrong here. But I also know that we can't just stand here and do nothing. We need to find a way to escape this place, to find our way back to the surface and the safety of the world above.
"Varrika," I say, my voice tight with tension. "We need to be careful. Whatever this is, it's not going to be easy. But we have to keep moving, keep fighting. We can't give up now."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever challenges may lie ahead. Whatever The Voice has in store for us, whatever horrors await us at the end of this tunnel - I know one thing for sure. Varrika and I will face them together. Just like always.
I take a step forward, my hand resting on the hilt of my crossbow. I can feel the weight of it in my hand, the smooth wood of the stock pressed against my palm. It's a comfort, a reminder that we have a way to defend ourselves if things go wrong.
"Let's see what this thing wants," I say, my voice low and dangerous. "But be ready for anything. We don't know what we're up against here."
I take another step forward, my eyes fixed on the figure ahead of me. I can feel the tension in the air, the sense that something is about to happen, something that will change everything. But I also know that we have no choice but to keep moving forward, to face whatever challenges may lie ahead.
"Varrika," I say, my voice tight with tension. "Stay close to me. And be ready for anything."
I feel a chill run down my spine as I watch the rocks hover in midair, defying gravity and reason. My hand tightens on the hilt of my mace, my knuckles white with tension.
"This is no natural magic," I growl, my voice low and dangerous. "Whatever this thing is, it's not something we can fight with steel alone."
I glance over at Merrin, my eyes meeting hers in a moment of shared understanding. We've faced many dangers together, but never anything quite like this.
"Merrin," I say, my voice tight with urgency. "We need to be careful. This thing... it's not right. There's something wrong here, something that we can't see."
