As Varrika hauls herself up over the edge of the pit, she loses her footing on the jagged rock and stumbles backwards, her hand grasping wildly for a purchase. Merrin rushes to catch her, her eyes wide with worry and fear. The two women stumble together, their hands entwined as they struggle to regain their balance. Suddenly, the air is filled with the sound of rushing water, and the ground beneath them gives way once more. The pit opens up into a vast underground lake, its surface churning with turbulent waters. A figure stands on the far shore, its back turned to the women. The Voice's voice echoes in their minds, "The greatest fear... will be your downfall."

My heart is pounding as I struggle to keep my footing on the unstable ground, the sound of rushing water filling my ears. Varrika's hand is clasped tightly in mine, her grip like iron as we fight against the pull of the pit.

"Varrika!" I yell over the roar of the water, my voice hoarse with fear and exhaustion. "We have to move! We can't stay here!"

But even as I say the words, I know that it's too late. The ground beneath us gives way once more, and we're tumbling down into the churning waters below. The shock of the cold water steals my breath away, and for a moment I'm disoriented, thrashing wildly as I struggle to keep my head above the surface.

But Varrika is beside me, her strong arms pulling me towards the shore. Together we fight our way through the turbulent waters, our lungs burning with the need for air. As we near the shore, I can see a figure standing on the far bank, its back turned to us. The Voice's words echo in my mind once more: "The greatest fear... will be your downfall."

I feel a wave of dread wash over me as we reach the shore at last, my legs trembling with exhaustion as I haul myself up onto the solid ground. Varrika is beside me, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she struggles to catch her breath.

"What... what was that?" She asks, her voice hoarse and shaking. "What's happening here?"

I shake my head, my eyes fixed on the mysterious figure on the far shore. "I don't know," I say, my voice barely a whisper. "But I have a feeling we're about to find out."

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever challenges may lie ahead. Whatever The Voice has in store for us, whatever horrors await us at the end of this journey - I know one thing for sure. Varrika and I will face them together. Just like always.

Varrika · Fighter

I struggle to my feet, my muscles aching from the fall and the frigid water. I can feel the weight of my armor pulling me down, and I know that I'll need to shed some of it if we're going to be able to move quickly.

"Merrin," I say, my voice hoarse but determined. "We need to get out of these wet clothes and find a way to dry off. We can't afford to catch our death of cold down here."

I start to unbuckle my breastplate, wincing as the metal bites into my skin. "Help me get this off," I say, nodding towards my armor. "And then we need to find a way to make a fire. The Voice may have something else in store for us, but for now, we need to focus on staying alive."

I glance over at the mysterious figure on the far shore, my hand instinctively going to the hilt of my mace before I remember that it's gone. "Keep an eye on that one," I mutter under my breath. "I have a feeling they're not here to welcome us with open arms."

I start to shrug out of my armor, the weight of it suddenly feeling like a leaden shroud around my shoulders. I know that we're in for a long and dangerous journey, but I also know that Varrika and I will face it together. Whatever challenges The Voice may throw our way, whatever horrors await us at the end of this tunnel - we'll overcome them. Just like always.
