Round 230 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As we venture deeper into the tunnel, the darkness seems to press in around us, making it difficult to see more than a few feet ahead. Suddenly, I hear a faint scuttling noise coming from up ahead, followed by the soft glow of bioluminescent mushrooms growing on the walls. The air grows colder, and I can feel a malevolent presence lurking just out of sight. Merrin readies her crossbow, while Varrika grips her mace tightly, her eyes fixed on the tunnel entrance. "We need to keep moving," she whispers, her voice barely audible over the sound of our own ragged breathing. "We can't stay here forever."
Merrin: I grip my crossbow tighter, my knuckles white as I stare into the darkness ahead. The scuttling sound grows louder, more insistent, and I can feel my heart pounding in my chest.
"Varrika," I whisper, my voice barely audible. "Do you hear that?"
She nods, her face pale in the dim light of the mushrooms. She raises her mace, ready to strike if anything comes at us.
"I hear it," she says, her voice tense. "Whatever it is, it's getting closer."
I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. We're both banged up from the fall, but we can't afford to let our guard down now. Not with who knows what lurking in the shadows.
"Alright," I say, taking a step forward. "We need to keep moving. But stay alert - we don't know what's in this tunnel."
And with that, I start making my way forward, my crossbow at the ready and my senses on high alert. The darkness looms ahead, but I know that as long as we have each other, we've got a fighting chance.
But even as I step forward, I can't shake the feeling that something's wrong. The air feels heavy, oppressive, like the weight of a thousand eyes watching us from the shadows. And the scuttling sound...it's getting closer. Closer than it should be.
I glance back at Varrika, seeing the same fear and determination in her eyes. We're in this together, for better or worse. And right now, we need to focus on survival - no matter what horrors this place may hold.
I nod grimly at Merrin's words, my grip tightening on my mace. The scuttling sound grows louder, more insistent, and I can feel the hair on the back of my neck standing up.
"Whatever it is, we need to be ready for it," I mutter, my eyes scanning the tunnel ahead for any sign of movement. "Keep your crossbow at the ready, and stay alert."
I take a step forward, my boots scraping against the rough stone floor. The darkness presses in around us, thick and oppressive, and I can feel the weight of it bearing down on my shoulders.
But even as fear grips me, I feel a flicker of determination rising within me. We've faced worse than this, Merrin and I. And we'll face worse still before this nightmare is over.
I glance back at her, seeing the same steely resolve in her eyes that I know must be in mine. "We've got this," I say quietly, more to myself than to her. "Whatever comes, we'll face it together."
And with that, I turn back to the tunnel ahead, my mace raised and my senses on high alert. The darkness looms before us, thick and suffocating, but I know that as long as we have each other, we've got a fighting chance.
