As we take another step forward, the ground beneath us gives way once more, and we find ourselves teetering on the edge of the pit. The Figure in Shimmering Light takes a step closer, its presence seeming to fill the room with an otherworldly energy. Varrika's grip on her mace tightens, and she looks up at Merrin with a mixture of fear and determination in her eyes. The chamber continues to shake violently, sending dust and debris flying in all directions. The waning magic from the unstable state causes the air to distort, creating small whirlwinds that swirl around us. Suddenly, a loud crack echoes through the room, and the ground gives a final lurch beneath our feet. We stumble, but Merrin's quick reflexes catch us, holding us upright as we stare down into the abyss below. We have 10 feet of clearance before we fall. What do we do next?

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I feel my heart pounding in my chest as we teeter on the edge of the pit, the ground crumbling away beneath our feet. Merrin's grip on me is the only thing keeping us from plummeting into the abyss below, but I can feel her strength waning with each passing moment.

The Figure in Shimmering Light looms before us, its presence seeming to fill the room with an otherworldly energy. I'm not sure what it wants, but I know that we can't afford to stick around and find out.

I glance down at my mace, realizing with a sinking feeling that it's slipped from my grasp once again. I curse under my breath as I watch it clatter to the floor of the pit below, lost in the darkness.

"Merrin," I mutter, my voice strained and urgent. "We need to move. Now."

I take a tentative step forward, testing the stability of the ledge beneath us. It wobbles ominously, but doesn't give way entirely. I take another step, then another, my movements slow and deliberate as I try to keep my balance.

Behind me, I can hear the sound of rubble shifting and falling, the rumbling noise growing louder with each passing moment. But I don't dare look back - if we're going to survive this, we need to focus on what's ahead.

And so, with Merrin by my side and my mace at the ready, I step forward onto the shifting ledge, ready to fight for our lives.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I feel my heart pounding in my chest as we teeter on the edge of the pit, the ground crumbling away beneath our feet. Varrika's grip on me is the only thing keeping us from plummeting into the abyss below, but I can feel her strength waning with each passing moment.

The Figure in Shimmering Light looms before us, its presence seeming to fill the room with an otherworldly energy. I'm not sure what it wants, but I know that we can't afford to stick around and find out.

I glance down at my crossbow, realizing with a sinking feeling that we're running low on ammunition. I've got about half a dozen bolts left, and I'm not sure how many more of those creatures we'll be facing in this place.

But even as fear grips me, I feel a flicker of determination rising within me. We've come too far to let a little thing like a collapsing chamber stop us now.

"I've got an idea," I mutter to Varrika, my voice strained but determined. "We need to jump to the other side of the pit. It's our only chance."

I take a deep breath, steadying myself as I feel the ground shift beneath my feet once more. The Figure in Shimmering Light takes a step closer, its gaze fixed on us with an unsettling intensity. But I don't dare look away - if we're going to survive this, we need to stay focused.

And so, with Varrika by my side and my crossbow at the ready, I take a deep breath, crouch low, and leap across the gaping hole before us, praying to every god I can think of that we'll make it to the other side in one piece.
