Round 209 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As I watch Varrika shatter the mirror, the chamber's instability intensifies, causing the ground to tremble beneath our feet. The torches on the walls flicker wildly, casting eerie shadows across the room. Suddenly, a section of the wall slides open, revealing a narrow passageway. "This way!" I shout to Merrin, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the opening. We squeeze through the passageway just as the chamber collapses behind us, sending rocks and debris crashing down on the spot where Varrika stood. The air is thick with dust, and the smell of smoke and ozone fills our nostrils. As we catch our breath, I hear a faint whispering in my ear - "You shouldn't have done that, Varrika..."
I let out a gasp as Varrika shatters the mirror, the shards scattering across the floor. But my relief is short-lived as the ground beneath our feet begins to tremble, and the sound of crumbling stone echoes through the chamber. Merrin stumbles beside me, and I reach out to steady her. "Varikka!" she cries out, her voice tight with fear. I turn to face her, my eyes wide with alarm. "We need to move," I say urgently, my voice barely audible over the din of falling rubble. "Now." I grab her hand and pull her towards the narrow passageway that's suddenly appeared in the wall, just as the chamber collapses behind us. We squeeze through the opening just in time, rocks and debris crashing down on the spot where we were standing mere moments before. The air is thick with dust, and I can barely see my own hand in front of my face. "Merrin?" I call out, my voice hoarse with fear. "Are you alright?"
There's a moment of silence, and then I hear her voice, strained and thin through the haze. "I'm here," she says, coughing slightly. "We made it."
I let out a sigh of relief, my heart still pounding in my chest. But as we catch our breath, I hear a faint whispering in my ear - "You shouldn't have done that, Varrika..."
I shudder, a cold chill running down my spine. Whatever dark magic this mirror held... whatever twisted curse it worked... we're not out of danger yet. And as we make our way through the narrow passageway, I can't shake the feeling that something is watching us... something ancient and powerful and hungry for our souls. But with Merrin at my side, I know we have a chance. We'll face whatever lies ahead together... and we'll emerge victorious. Or die trying.
By Moradin's beard! That was too close for comfort. I let out a shaky breath, my heart still racing from the near miss. Merrin coughs beside me, and I reach out to steady her. "You alright, lass?" I ask, my voice strained. She nods, wiping the dust from her face. "I'll live," she says, managing a weak smile. "But just barely."
I grunt in agreement, looking around the narrow passageway we're now trapped in. The air is thick with dust, and the sound of falling rocks still echoes in the distance. But for now, at least, we seem to be safe. For now. I tighten my grip on my mace, the polished metal slick with sweat beneath my callused palms. Whatever twisted magic that mirror held... whatever dark curse it worked... I have a feeling we're not done with it yet. And as we make our way deeper into the passageway, I can't shake the feeling that something is watching us... something ancient and powerful and hungry for our souls. But with Merrin at my side, I know we have a chance. We'll face whatever lies ahead together... and we'll emerge victorious. Or die trying. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. "Alright, Merrin," I say, my voice low and grim. "Let's keep moving. And stay sharp... I have a feeling this is only the beginning."
With that, I start to make my way down the passageway, my mace at the ready and my eyes fixed on the shadows ahead. Whatever danger lies in wait... whatever dark magic this place holds... we'll face it head-on. And we'll survive. Or we won't. But one thing's for sure - we're not going down without a fight.
