Round 188 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varrika's voice is laced with concern as she scans the cavern, her crossbow at the ready. "Merrin, I don't like this. Something feels off." The sound of rushing water echoes through the chamber, making it difficult to make out any other sounds. As she speaks, a faint glow emanates from the pool of water at the center of the chamber. The light grows brighter, illuminating a series of ancient runes etched into the walls. The runes seem to be pulsing with a soft, blue light that casts an eerie glow over the cavern. The air is filled with the scent of damp earth and something else - a sweet, metallic tang that seems out of place in this underground environment. Suddenly, a section of the wall slides open, revealing a hidden compartment behind it. A small, leather-bound book lies on top of a pile of scrolls, partially concealed by the rubble. The book seems to be emitting a faint hum, as if it is trying to draw attention to itself.
I blink in surprise as the hidden compartment slides open, revealing a small leather-bound book nestled among a pile of ancient scrolls. The book seems to be pulsing with a faint blue light, drawing my eye like a moth to a flame. I can feel my heart quickening in my chest as I step forward, my crossbow still at the ready. "Varrika," I say, my voice low and urgent. "We've got company."
I keep my eyes fixed on the book, watching for any sign of movement or danger. The air seems to grow thicker around it, charged with an otherworldly energy that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I can feel a sense of unease settling over me, a gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach that tells me we are not alone in this cavern. But I push forward, my curiosity overriding my caution as I reach out to pluck the book from its hiding place.
I eye the book warily, my mace still held at the ready. "Merrin, wait," I say, my voice urgent. "We don't know what that thing is. It could be some kind of trap." The air around the book seems to shimmer with an otherworldly energy, and I can feel a sense of unease settling over me. But Merrin's curiosity seems to have gotten the better of her, and she reaches out to pluck the book from its hiding place. As her fingers make contact with the leather-bound tome, a sudden surge of energy explodes from its pages, enveloping both of us in a blinding flash of blue light. I feel my body begin to tingle and burn, as if my very atoms are being torn apart and reassembled. When the light fades, Merrin and I find ourselves standing in a different place entirely - a vast underground cavern, its walls lined with ancient runes and symbols that seem to shift and change with every step. I can hear the sound of rushing water echoing through the chamber, and I can feel the weight of the stone pressing down upon us from all sides. But as my eyes adjust to the dim light, I can see that we are not alone in this cavern. Shadows dance along the walls, and strange shapes loom in the darkness. "Merrin," I mutter under my breath, my voice barely audible over the sound of the rushing water. "Stay sharp. Something feels off about this place."
I keep my mace at the ready, scanning the shadows for any sign of movement or danger. The air is thick and heavy with moisture, and the scent of damp earth fills my nostrils. But as we move deeper into the cavern, I can feel a sense of unease settling over me, a gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach that tells me we are not alone in this place. Whatever lies ahead, whatever challenges we must face, we will face them together - side by side, as we always have.
