Round 185 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As the central pool continues to pulse with an eerie, otherworldly light, the shimmering entity draws closer, its form shifting and twisting like a living thing. The air crackles with energy, and tendrils of energy dance across the surface of the pool, as if drawing power from the very heart of the chamber. Varrika's grip on her mace tightens, ready for a fight, while Merrin's crossbow remains at the ready. Suddenly, the ground beneath their feet shudders, and the sound of scraping stone fills the air, as if the chamber itself is protesting their presence. A section of the wall slides open, revealing a narrow passageway that was previously hidden by a tangle of rubble. The entity's form begins to take shape, its features becoming more defined as it rises higher into the air. Varrika's eyes widen in alarm as she takes in the new development. "Merrin, look! We have an escape route!" she exclaims, her voice laced with a mix of excitement and fear.
I catch sight of the hidden passageway and my heart leaps. "By the gods," I mutter, my eyes fixed on the narrow opening in the wall. "Looks like our prayers were answered, Merrin." I take a step towards the passageway, my mace still gripped tightly in my hand, but something gives me pause. The entity, now fully formed and glowing with an otherworldly light, hovers between us and our potential escape route. I can feel the power emanating from it, thick and heavy in the air, and I know that we can't simply walk past it without facing whatever challenge or danger it represents. I glance at Merrin, my eyes searching hers for a moment of understanding. "We can't just run," I tell her, my voice low and urgent. "That thing... it's not natural, and it's drawing power from the very heart of this chamber. We have to face it, Merrin. We have to fight our way through." I take a deep breath, steeling myself for the battle to come. "But we do it together. Side by side, like we always have." I hold out my hand to her, offering her the strength of my grip and the bond of our shared journey. The passageway may be our only chance at escape, but we can't take it for granted. We have to prove ourselves worthy, to face whatever challenges this entity throws at us and emerge victorious. Only then will we truly be free of this hellhole and the twisted magic that animates it. "Are you with me, Merrin?" I ask, my voice filled with quiet conviction. "For the goddess, and for each other."
I glance at the shimmering entity, its form now fully defined and pulsing with otherworldly energy. Varrika's right - we can't just run. That thing... it's drawing power from the very heart of this chamber, and we have to face it head-on if we want any hope of escape. I take a step towards her, my crossbow still aimed at the entity, but my eyes locked with hers. "Together, Varrika," I agree, my voice filled with quiet determination. "Side by side, like always." I reach out and clasp her hand in mine, feeling the strength of her grip and the bond of our shared journey. The passageway may be our only way out, but we have to prove ourselves worthy first. We have to face whatever challenges this entity throws at us and emerge victorious. Only then will we truly be free of this hellhole and the twisted magic that animates it. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for the battle to come. The entity hovers before us, its form shifting and twisting like a living thing. I can feel the power emanating from it, thick and heavy in the air, and I know that we can't underestimate its strength or its intent. "For the goddess," I whisper, my voice filled with quiet conviction. "And for each other." I squeeze Varrika's hand one last time before releasing it, my crossbow at the ready as we prepare to face the entity head-on. Whatever happens next, whatever challenges we must overcome, we will face them together. United in our determination to survive this hellhole and see the light of day again. Merrin's eyes narrow as she focuses on the entity, her finger hovering over the trigger of her crossbow. She can feel the power emanating from it, thick and heavy in the air, and she knows that we can't underestimate its strength or its intent. With a deep breath, she steels herself for the battle to come, ready to fight alongside Varrika and prove their worthiness.
She glances at the passageway, the potential escape route beckoning from behind the shimmering entity. But Merrin knows that they can't simply run. They have to face this challenge head-on, to emerge victorious if they want any hope of true freedom. With a nod to Varrika, she raises her crossbow and takes aim at the entity's form, ready to unleash a volley of bolts at the first sign of aggression.
"Ready when you are," Merrin mutters under her breath, her eyes fixed on the entity before them. "Let's show this thing what we're made of."
