Merrin felt the ground beneath them crack like shattering glass, sending them both stumbling backward as the crystal platform tilted at an impossible angle. Varrika's powerful hands found purchase on a jagged edge, fingers digging into the smooth surface even as it shifted and warped under their grip.

The dwarf's voice was tight with effort as she called out, "Merrin! Grab onto me!" Her muscles strained against the shifting terrain, trying to maintain stability for them both. The air around them seemed to thicken, pressing in with an otherworldly energy that made Merrin's skin crawl.

She knew they needed to act fast—if this dimension wanted to separate them, they'd have to fight harder than ever before. But her magic reserves were critically low, and the voice's laughter still echoed through her mind like a physical blow. Fuck.

Merrin scrambled forward, her quick hands finding purchase on Varrika's armor as she pressed herself against the dwarf's back. The ground continued to shift beneath them, each movement sending fresh waves of terror through Merrin's exhausted body. She wrapped her arms around Varrika's waist tightly, clinging to the familiar warmth and solidity of her friend.

"Stay with me," Merrin whispered, her voice barely audible over the creaking of the shifting crystal. "We're not letting this place separate us."

Varrika grunted in response, her muscles trembling with exertion as she fought to keep them both upright on the tilting surface. The magical seals on her skin pulsed faster now, a clear sign that something was about to happen—activation likely imminent. But what? A guardian release? Another trap?

The figure in Shimmering Light remained motionless before them, its presence somehow more unsettling than the shifting terrain beneath their feet. Merrin could feel the weight of its gaze upon them both, as if it was watching their struggle with detached amusement.

They needed a plan—fast—and Merrin's mind raced through their limited options. Without enough magic to stabilize the platform or teleport them out, they'd have to find another way to survive this fall. And time was running out fast.

The crystal continued to groan and shift around them, each movement bringing them closer to whatever awaited at the bottom. Merrin buried her face against Varrika's broad back, focusing on the steady rhythm of her friend's breathing. Together, they'd find a way through this—somehow.

But first, they had to survive the fall.
