Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The crystal figure nods, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "I shall present you with a trial. You must work together to overcome a challenge that will test your unity and your resolve." She gestures to a nearby platform, where a set of glowing runes pulsate with an otherworldly energy. As she speaks, the ground beneath Varrika's feet begins to shift, causing her to stumble. The crystal figure raises a hand, stabilizing the platform just in time. "The first challenge is to navigate this shifting terrain without falling. Merrin, you will be given a chance to demonstrate your agility. Varrika, you will be tasked with maintaining balance and stability. If either of you fails, the consequences will be dire."
The crystal figure hands Varrika a small, ornate box. "This contains a tool that will enhance your abilities. However, it comes with a warning: excessive use may lead to unintended consequences."
I eye the ornate box warily as the crystal figure hands it to Varikka. A tool to enhance our abilities? It sounds too good to be true. In this twisted realm, every gift comes with a price, and I can't shake the feeling that this is no exception.
But as the ground shifts beneath my feet, I know we don't have much choice. The challenge is clear: we must navigate this treacherous terrain without falling. And with the crystal figure watching our every move, I suspect that failure is not an option.
I turn to Varikka, seeing the same tension in their posture that I feel in my own body. "Keep your balance," I murmur, my voice low and urgent. "Whatever happens, don't let yourself get thrown off. We need you steady if we're going to make it through this."
Varikka nods, their grip tightening on their mace. I know they understand the stakes as well as I do. In this place, a single misstep could mean the difference between life and death.
I turn back to the crystal figure, my eyes narrowing as I take in her unreadable expression. "Alright," I say, my voice ringing out across the shifting expanse of the crystal plain. "We accept your challenge. But know this: we won't be caught off guard again. Whatever games you have in store for us, whatever trials we must face, we will meet them head-on. And we will emerge victorious."
And with that, I turn and sprint towards the platform, my feet flying over the shifting facets of the crystal plain. The wind whips at my hair, the air humming with an otherworldly energy that sets my nerves on edge. But I don't let it slow me down. I push harder, faster, my muscles burning with effort as I strain to keep my balance.
Behind me, I can hear Varikka's heavy footsteps, their mace striking against the crystal as they struggle to maintain their footing. And above us all, the crystal figure watches, her eyes boring into our very souls as we race towards whatever fate awaits us on the other side of this twisted trial.
But I don't let myself think about that now. All that matters is the ground beneath my feet, the air in my lungs, and the determination burning in my chest. Whatever lies ahead, whatever horrors may await us, I know that as long as Varikka stands beside me and the power of the Book flows through our veins, we can overcome anything.
And so I run on, my heart pounding, my breath coming in ragged gasps as I push myself to the limits of my endurance. The platform looms closer, its runes pulsing with an otherworldly energy that seems to call to me like a siren's song. And as I draw near, I know that whatever challenge awaits us there, we will face it together, united in our struggle against the forces of this twisted realm.
My heart pounds as the ground shifts beneath my feet, the crystal facets tilting and sliding in a dizzying display. I stagger, my mace clattering against the unsteady surface as I struggle to maintain my balance.
I glance at Merrin, seeing the same tension in their posture as they race towards the platform. Whatever challenge awaits us there, we'll have to face it together, united in our struggle against this treacherous realm.
I turn back to the crystal figure, my eyes narrowing as I take in her unreadable expression. "What is the price?" I demand, my voice ringing out across the shifting expanse of the crystal plain. "Whatever tool you offer us, whatever enhancement it promises, we need to know the cost."
I know from experience that nothing in this twisted dimension comes without a price. And as Varikka hands me the ornate box, I can't shake the feeling that this is no exception. The crystal figure's warning echoes in my mind: excessive use may lead to unintended consequences.
But I don't let that fear slow me down. I take the box from Varikka's hand, my fingers brushing against the smooth surface as I open it with a sense of trepidation. Inside, nestled on a bed of velvet, is a small, glowing rune, its energy pulsing in time with the shifting facets beneath my feet.
I pick it up, feeling its warmth against my palm, and slip it into my pocket. Whatever power it holds, whatever price it may demand, I know that we'll need every advantage we can get if we're going to make it through this trial.
And so, with a final glance at the crystal figure, I turn and follow Merrin towards the platform, my mace gripped tightly in my hand, my heart pounding in my chest. Whatever lies ahead, whatever horrors may await us, I know that as long as Merrin stands beside me and the power of the Book flows through our veins, we can overcome anything.
But first, we have to survive this trial. And as the ground shifts beneath my feet once more, I know that will be no easy task.
