Varrika pulls Merrin to safety just as a large boulder crashes onto the ledge behind them, sending up a cloud of dust. They both stumble back, the ground beneath their feet still shuddering from the impact. As they regain their balance, Varrika's eyes narrow at Merrin. "You're not going to let me have that book, are you?" she growls, her voice low and urgent. "We can't afford to waste any more time."

Merrin clutches the book tightly to her chest, her face set in a determined expression. "I'm not letting go of it," she says firmly, her eyes locked on Varrika's. "It's the only thing that might give us a chance to unlock the secrets of the Time-Splitting Sword."

Varrika's face twists in frustration, but she doesn't try to take the book from Merrin. Instead, she glances down at the chasm below, her expression calculating. "Fine," she says finally. "But if we fall, it's on you."

I grip the book tighter to my chest as Varrika's eyes narrow in frustration. I know she wants me to hand it over, but something deep inside me is screaming that this book is important, that it might be our only chance at survival.

"I'm sorry, Varrika," I say, my voice shaking slightly. "But I can't let you have it. Not yet." I glance down at the chasm below, the sheer drop making my stomach churn. "We're running out of time. The tower is crumbling around us, and we don't know what's waiting for us on the other side."

I take a tentative step forward, my free hand outstretched towards Varrika. "Please," I say, my eyes locked on hers. "Trust me on this. I know it sounds crazy, but I have a feeling that this book is going to be our only way out of here."

As Varrika's face twists in frustration, I can feel the ground shifting beneath my feet, the ominous groaning of the tower growing louder with each passing second. "We need to move," I say, my voice urgent and filled with a desperate energy. "The ledge is unstable, and I can hear more debris falling behind us."

With that, I start to make my way across the ledge, my hand outstretched towards Varrika as I pray that she'll follow me into the unknown. "Come on," I say, my voice softening slightly. "We've come this far. We might as well see it through."

I grab Merrin's outstretched hand, my grip firm and unyielding as I pull her closer to me. "Fine," I say, my voice a low growl. "But if we fall, it's on you."

I glance down at the chasm below, the sheer drop making my stomach churn. I know that Merrin is right - we're running out of time, and we don't know what's waiting for us on the other side.

But still, some small part of me wonders if this is all a fool's errand anyway. The book in Merrin's hands seems to pulse with an otherworldly energy, its pages glowing with a light that seems to grow brighter with each passing second.

I shake my head, trying to clear the thoughts from my mind. "Come on," I say, my voice softening slightly as I start to make my way across the ledge. "We've come this far. We might as well see it through."

As we move forward, I can feel the ground shifting beneath my feet, the ominous groaning of the tower growing louder with each passing second. But still, some small part of me wonders if this is all a fool's errand anyway, if we should just turn back and try to find another way out of this nightmare.

But then I look over at Merrin, her face set in a determined expression as she clutches the book tightly to her chest, and I know that we can't give up now. Not when there's still a chance, however small, that this book could hold the key to our survival... or our doom.
