Round 83 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varrika takes a deep breath, her hand tightening around the haft of her mace as she steps into the hidden chamber. The air crackles with magical energy, and the whispering grows louder, seeming to come from all directions at once. "You... can't escape... the trial..." it whispers, the words echoing in Varrika's mind like a cruel mantra. As she enters the chamber, the ground gives way beneath her feet, and she finds herself suspended in mid-air by a magical force field. The chamber around her begins to distort and ripple, revealing a series of ancient mirrors that seem to be reflecting different versions of themselves. Serrine's limp form is nowhere to be seen, but Merrin's voice echoes in her mind, "Varrika, no! Don't go up there!"
The Voice whispers again, its tone dripping with malice, "You'll find your greatest fears within the mirrors. Are you prepared to face them?"
Varrika must decide how to proceed, either by ascending into the mirrored labyrinth or trying to find another way out of the chamber.
I stare in horror as Varrika steps into the hidden chamber. The air crackles with eldritch energy, and I can feel a sense of dread washing over me. "Varrika, no!" I shout, but it's too late. She's already vanished from sight, the force field trapping her within. My heart races as I try to process what's happening. The mirrors around us shimmer and distort, reflecting different versions of ourselves. It's like looking into a funhouse mirror, but with a sense of wrongness that makes my skin crawl. I know we're in danger now. This is more than just a simple hidden chamber - it's a trap, designed to test our resolve and push us to our limits. And Varrika... she's trapped inside, unable to escape. "Varikka!" I call out, my voice echoing through the chamber. "Can you hear me? Are you okay?"
I take a tentative step forward, my crossbow at the ready. The crystal at the bottom of the pit pulses with an otherworldly light, its power growing stronger by the second. But I can't afford to let it distract me now. I need to focus on finding Varrika and getting her out of this nightmare. But as I take another step, the ground beneath my feet begins to tremble. The mirrors around me shimmer and distort, and I can feel a sense of unease settling over me like a shroud. "Varikka!" I shout again, my voice growing more desperate with each passing moment. "Where are you? We need to get out of here!"
The Voice whispers again, its tone dripping with malice, "You'll find your greatest fears within the mirrors. Are you prepared to face them?"
I steel myself, knowing that whatever awaits me in those mirrors, I'll have to confront it head-on if I want to save Varrika and get us both out of this maddening trap.
I grit my teeth, my muscles tensing as the magical force field holds me suspended in midair. The chamber swirls around me, ancient mirrors reflecting distorted versions of myself. My heart pounds in my chest as I struggle against the invisible bonds, but it's no use. I'm trapped. "Merrin!" I call out, my voice echoing through the chamber. "I'm in here! But I can't..." I trail off, my words lost in the swirling madness. The crystal at the bottom of the pit pulses with an otherworldly light, its power growing stronger by the second. I can feel it tugging at my mind, trying to pull me deeper into the labyrinth of mirrors. The Voice whispers again, its tone dripping with malice. "You'll find your greatest fears within the mirrors. Are you prepared to face them?" I swallow hard, my hand tightening around the haft of my mace. I know that whatever lies ahead, it won't be pretty. But I also know that I can't afford to let my fears control me. Not now, not ever. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. "Merrin," I call out again, my voice steady and determined. "I don't know if you can hear me, but if you're out there... find Serrine. Get her somewhere safe. And then... then come back for me. I'll hold the line here as long as I can."
