The air in the narrow passage seemed to thicken, growing heavy with an energy that prickled along Merrin's skin like static before a storm. The ancient symbols etched into the stone walls began to glow with an eerie blue light, their patterns shifting and writhing as if alive. She pressed herself against the cold stone opposite the moving markings, her heart hammering in her chest.

This was worse than any skeleton or trap they'd faced so far. Serrine stepped closer to examine the runes, her elegant fingers tracing the air just above their surface without touching. The wizard's face was etched with exhaustion but her eyes burned with that familiar fire of intellectual curiosity mixed with barely contained fear.

"Merrin," she said softly, not taking her gaze off the symbols, "what do you see here? Any patterns? Hidden meanings?"

Merrin squinted at the glowing characters, her mind racing. "They're... moving. Shifting. Like they're trying to form words or..." She swallowed hard. "...a message." The thought sent a shiver down her spine.*

Serrine nodded slowly, her expression grim. "I feared as much. This is no mere decoration—it's active magic. And it wants something from us." She turned to face Merrin fully, her voice dropping to a whisper. "We need to be careful here. Whatever this is, it's tied to the sword... and to Varrika."

Merrin felt a fresh wave of dread wash over her. Varrika was still trapped somewhere in this cursed tower, possibly in danger. "You think this is connected to what happened to her? The voice she heard?"

"I do," Serrine replied, her eyes flicking back to the glowing runes. "And I fear that whatever we must face here... it will be far worse than mere physical threats."
