Round 45 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Seraphine's warding spell holds strong against the creature's attack, but the strain causes her to stumble, almost falling. The ground shudders beneath her feet, and the tunnel's walls begin to collapse inward, sending dust and debris swirling around her. The creature seizes the opportunity, its twisted form surging forward to strike.
I watch in horror as Seraphine stumbles, the creature's attack breaking through her warding spell. The tunnel walls begin to collapse around us, sending dust and debris flying through the air. I can hear Varrika's grunts of effort as she battles the creature, her massive mace striking against its chitinous armor with a sickening crunch.
In that moment, time seems to slow. I see the creature surging forward, its twisted form poised to strike at Seraphine's vulnerable back. And I know, with a certainty that settles like a stone in my gut, that we're out of options now.
"Seraphine, look out!" I shout, my voice raw with the effort of pushing through the oppressive air. But even as the words leave my mouth, I know it's too late. The creature is too fast, too close. And if I don't act now, we're all going to die here in this collapsing tunnel.
So I do the only thing I can think of. I launch myself forward, my body moving on pure instinct and adrenaline. My mace swings in a wide arc, the heavy metal connecting with the creature's flank with a sickening crunch. The impact sends a shockwave through my arm, rattling my bones and setting my teeth on edge.
But it works. The creature recoils, its malevolent glare snapping towards me as I skid to a halt beside Seraphine. I can feel the heat of its gaze like a physical weight, the air around us crackling with dark energy.
"Go!" I shout, my voice strained and hoarse from the effort of breathing through the dust-filled air. "I'll hold it off as long as I can!"
And then I'm turning back to face the creature, my mace held at the ready. I can hear Varrika's battle cry echoing off the collapsing walls, can feel the heat of the ward seal pulsing against my skin. But all of that fades into the background, my world narrowing down to the twisted form of the creature and the knowledge that my life may well end in this dark, crumbling tunnel.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. This is it. This is where we find out if all our training, all our preparation, was enough. Or if we're about to fall to the darkness and the ancient evils that lurk beneath the earth.
I feel the creature's malevolent gaze lock onto me as Merrin's desperate attack buys me a precious second of reprieve. The mage's warning about the dangers of tampering with the ancient seals rings in my ears, but it's drowned out by the ominous rumble of stone above us and the frantic beat of my own heart. I know we're all going to die if we don't act now.
My eyes dart to the flickering ward seal deep within the tunnel, its weak pulse a stark contrast to the chaos unfolding around us. It could be our only chance, but reaching it means leaving Merrin and Varrika to face the creature alone. The thought sends a chill through me, but I push it aside. We're all in this together, and if one of us can buy the others time, it has to be worth trying.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I must do next. "Merrin, Varrika - keep that thing busy! Seraphine is going to try something!" Without waiting for a response, I turn and sprint towards the distant ward seal, my robes tangling around my legs with every step.
The ground trembles beneath my feet, sending me stumbling, but I catch myself on the rough stone wall. Dust rains down from above, stinging my eyes and filling my lungs with each gasping breath. I can hear the clash of weapons behind me, the creature's enraged shrieks mixing with Merrin and Varrika's grunts of exertion.
I push myself harder, my muscles burning as I navigate the treacherous terrain of the collapsing tunnel. The ward seal grows larger in my vision, its pulsing light now a beacon guiding me through the darkness. I can feel the heat radiating from it, a strange, otherworldly warmth that seems to call out to me.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity, I reach the seal. It's an intricate pattern etched into the stone, glowing with a faint, sickly green energy. Up close, I can see how precarious its state truly is—fractures run through the stone around it, and the light flickers erratically, as if it's on the verge of complete failure.
"I hope you're right about this," I mutter under my breath, my hands trembling as I reach out to touch the seal. The moment my fingers make contact, a jolt of power surges through me, unlike anything I've ever felt before. It’s both thrilling and terrifying, a raw, ancient magic that feels like it could consume me entirely.
