Round 43 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As the creature's eyes lock onto you, its twisted form blurs into motion, scuttling forward with an unnatural speed. You raise your mace, ready to strike, but the ground beneath you gives another sickening lurch, and the sound of rumbling echoes through the tunnel, threatening to engulf you all. The creature freezes, its malevolent glare fixed on you, as if sensing the approaching doom. The air is heavy with tension as the corridor darkens, the shadows deepening into an abyssal void that seems to swallow all light. Merrin's eyes are fixed on the creature, her grip on her mace tightening as she takes a step back. "We need to move," she says urgently, her voice barely audible over the rumbling tunnel. "Now." Varrika nods, her sword at the ready, and Seraphine's hands weave a complex pattern of magic in the air, a spell of protection and warding that seems to repel the encroaching darkness.
I feel a surge of adrenaline as I raise my mace, ready to strike at the creature as it blurs into motion. But the ground beneath me lurches again, and the rumbling of the collapsing tunnel fills my ears. The creature freezes, its malevolent glare fixed on me as if sensing the approaching doom.
I glance at Merrin and Varrika, seeing the grim determination on their faces. We're out of options now—fight or die. And with the tunnel collapsing around us, death seems more and more likely with each passing second.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. This is what we trained for, isn't it? To face the impossible and survive. Or at least, to fall with honor rather than cower in fear.
"On three," I say, my voice a strained whisper over the rumble of the tunnel. "One... two..."
*I hold up a final finger, my gaze fixed on the writhing creature. The air crackles with impending violence and the unnerving sound of the collapsing tunnel. "Three!"
And then I lunge forward, my sword held high, ready to strike at the creature's heart.
I feel the surge of magical energy build within me as I complete the warding spell, a faint blue glow surrounding my hands. It's a small comfort against the oppressive darkness and the creature's malevolent presence, but it's all we have right now.
As Merrin lunges forward with her sword, I focus my will on the spell, pushing it outwards in a shimmering barrier around the party. The creature's twisted form recoils slightly from the arcane energy, giving us a precious second of respite.
I watch as Varrika and Seraphine join the fight, their weapons clashing against the creature's chitinous armor. The sounds of combat mix with the ominous rumbling of the collapsing tunnel, creating a cacophony of danger that threatens to overwhelm my senses.
My mind races, trying to find a solution that doesn't involve brute force alone. This creature is clearly not a normal monster—it seems to be drawn by the dark magic emanating from the depths of the tower. Perhaps there's a way to disrupt its power source rather than simply hacking it apart piece by piece.
I take a step back, my eyes scanning the area for anything that might help. A faint, pulsing light catches my attention from deeper in the tunnel—another ward, but one that seems weaker, more unstable than mine. It could be the key to this entire situation.
"I have an idea!" I call out over the din of battle, my voice strained with effort. "There's another ward further down the tunnel. If we can get to it and disrupt its flow, it might weaken the creature or even drive it back!"
I point towards the flickering light, hoping the others will see what I mean. It's a desperate plan, but right now, desperation is all we have left.
"Cover me while I try to reach it!" I shout, already starting to move towards the distant ward, my warding spell held at the ready. "And watch out for the tunnel coming down on top of us!"
