As Seraphine finishes her suggestion to search the room for another exit, Varrika's eyes narrow, her grip on her sword tightening. "I agree we need to be cautious," she says, her voice low and steady. "But we can't just stand here in the open. The door is still slightly ajar, and whatever is behind it could be waiting for us. I'll take point, keep an eye out for any traps or threats."

Merrin nods, her hand on the hilt of her mace. "I'll follow close behind, ready to take cover if needed." She glances at Seraphine, a hint of concern in her voice. "What about the rest of us? We can't just leave Halie here to fend for herself."

Varrika's expression turns grim. "We'll have to get back to her soon enough. But for now, let's focus on finding a safe way out." She takes a deep breath, then pushes open the hidden door, revealing a narrow corridor beyond. The air emanating from it seems to vibrate with an eerie energy, making Merrin's skin crawl.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I watch Varrika push open the hidden door, my heart hammering against my ribs as I feel the strange energy radiating from within the narrow corridor. The air seems to thicken around us, the fog swirling more insistently towards the opening. Merrin's concern about leaving Halie behind echoes my own thoughts, but the tower's collapse leaves little choice.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what we're about to face. The thought of venturing into that unknown darkness terrifies me, but Varrika is right - we can't just stand here in the open, waiting for something worse to find us first.
I nod at Merrin, my expression grim but determined. "We'll come back for Halie as soon as we find a way out of this place. She's strong, she can hold on."
My eyes dart back to the open door, then towards the far wall where the shadows seem to be deepest. The statue's rubble still blocks part of the room, and I wonder if there might be a passage hidden beneath it.
"Varrika, wait," I say quickly, my voice low and urgent. "What if... what if there's another way? A secret door, or maybe a hidden tunnel in that rubble over there?"
I point towards the far wall, where the shadows are thickest. "The way the light falls... it looks like there might be something under all that stone. We could try to clear enough to get through."
I know it's a risk, but anything seems better than walking blindly into whatever lurks in that corridor. I turn back to Merrin and Varrika, my expression serious but hopeful.
"If we can find another exit... it might be safer. And if we do go through that door, we'll have a better chance of getting back to Halie if we don't get trapped or lost."
I take a step towards the rubble, my hand outstretched as if to push aside the heavy stones.* "Let's at least check it out before we commit to one path. We need all the options we can get right now."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I hesitate as Varrika pushes open the hidden door, my heart racing at the thought of what lies beyond. The strange energy radiating from the corridor makes my skin crawl, and I find myself taking an instinctive step back.

Seraphine's suggestion to check the rubble for a secret passage catches my attention, and I nod slowly in agreement. "Good thinking," I murmur, my eyes scanning the heap of stone and debris. "If we can find another way out, it might be worth the risk of getting lost or trapped."

I take a step towards the rubble, my hand outstretched to push aside some of the larger stones. "But we need to be careful. Who knows what kind of traps or mechanisms might be hidden in there?" I glance back at Varrika, a hint of worry in my expression. "Varrika, you take point here. Your strength will come in handy if we need to move anything heavy."

I turn to Seraphine, my voice soft and urgent. "Seraphine, can you try to sense any magical energies or wards around the rubble? We don't want to accidentally trigger something dangerous."

My eyes drift back to the open door, a shiver running down my spine as I feel the pull of whatever lies beyond. "Whatever's waiting for us in that corridor... it can wait a little longer. But we need to work fast. The tower could collapse at any moment."

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what we're about to do. "Okay, let's do this. Varrika, start moving the rubble as quietly as you can. Seraphine, keep your eyes and ears open for anything magical. And I'll keep watch on our surroundings, ready to call out if I see or hear anything suspicious."

I nod at them both, my expression grim but determined. "Let's find a way out of this place before it's too late."
