Round 39 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Seraphine finishes speaking, the thumping sound grows even louder, and the ground begins to shake beneath their feet. The statue's rubble shifts, revealing a hidden pressure plate beneath the fallen statue. Varrika instinctively steps back, her sword at the ready, as the pressure plate emits a bright flash of light. The light fades, revealing a low door hidden behind the statue, now slightly ajar. The air emanating from the doorway seems to be filled with an eerie, pulsating energy that makes Merrin's skin crawl. The fog swirling around them seems to be drawn towards the door, as if beckoning them closer. Varrika's eyes narrow, her grip on her sword tightening. "What do you think is on the other side?" she asks, her voice low and cautious. The door creaks ominously in the silence, as if waiting for their response.
I stare at the hidden door, my heart pounding in my chest as I try to process what's happening. The air around it seems to be pulsing with some kind of dark energy, and I can feel the hair on the back of my neck standing on end. I take a step closer, my hand outstretched towards the door handle, but I hesitate at the last moment.
"I don't know," I say slowly, my voice strained with trepidation. "But whatever's behind there... it doesn't feel right. There's something wrong about this whole place, like it's alive and watching us."
I glance back at Varrika, my eyes wide with fear. "Varrika, we can't just rush in there. We don't know what kind of traps or dangers might be waiting for us on the other side. And with the tower collapsing around us... I don't think it's worth the risk."
I take another step back, my hand still outstretched towards the door handle. "We need to find another way out of here. Maybe there's a secret passage or a hidden exit somewhere in this chamber. Or maybe we could try to climb back up the rubble and make our way to the surface that way."
I know I'm being cautious, but I can't shake the feeling that something terrible is waiting for us beyond that door. And with the tower collapsing around us, every second counts. We need to be smart about this, to use our wits as much as our weapons. But even as I think this, I can feel the fear rising up inside me, threatening to overwhelm my reason.
I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself. "What do you think, Varrika?" I ask, my voice soft and uncertain. "Do you think we should try to find another way out of here? Or do you think we should take our chances with whatever's waiting for us beyond that door?"
I stare at the hidden door, my heart hammering against my ribs as I feel the strange energy radiating from it. The air around us seems to be thickening, the fog swirling more insistently towards the opening. My hand hovers near the handle, but I can't bring myself to touch it.
"I agree with Merrin," I say, my voice strained with a mixture of fear and excitement. "This feels... wrong. Like we're being lured into something dangerous."
I turn to face Varrika, my eyes wide with concern. "Varrika, I know we need to escape this collapsing tower, but rushing into unknown darkness with no plan seems like a death sentence. We have to be smart about this."
I take a step back from the door, my gaze scanning the chamber again, searching for any other possible exits or clues. The statue's rubble still blocks part of the room, and I wonder if there might be a passage hidden beneath it.
"Maybe we should look for another way," I suggest, my voice growing more confident now that we're considering alternatives. "If we can find a secret door or a hidden tunnel, we might have a better chance of getting out of here alive. And without facing whatever horrors lie behind that door."
I point towards the far wall of the chamber, where the shadows seem to be deeper than anywhere else in the room. "Over there, near where the statue was... the shadows are thickest. Could there be a hidden mechanism or a concealed passage?"
I turn back to Merrin and Varrika, my expression serious but determined. "We need to work together on this. If we split up, we'll just be easier targets for whatever is hunting us in this place. So let's all search the room systematically, looking for any clues or exits. And stay alert - if anything moves that shouldn't be moving, we run."
My eyes drift back to the hidden door, a shiver running down my spine as I feel its presence like a cold breath on the back of my neck.* "Whatever is behind there... it can wait until we've found a safer way out. Our lives come first."
