The air between them felt charged, not just with magic but with something more personal after their descent pressed them so intimately together. Jeane and Seraphine stood near the center of the chamber, surrounded by crystals that pulsed with an inner light.
"I don't like the silence," Jeane said softly, her voice barely disturbing the charged atmosphere. She moved to stand beside Seraphine, close enough for easy communication but angled slightly toward the chamber's perimeter, wings half-spread in a posture of perpetual readiness.
Seraphine nodded, her sharp elven gaze scanning the crystal formations. "In a place like this," she murmured back, "I'd rather hear something—anything—than wait for whatever comes next." The crystals pulsed faster, their light intensifying until the very atmosphere seemed to glow.
