The air crackled with magical energy as Seraphine completed her dispelling spell, the runes on the ancient pillars dimming and unraveling like thread from a spool. The oppressive atmosphere lightened fractionally, the malevolent voices fading into an ominous silence. A soft click announced the shimmering wall of energy dissolving, revealing a narrow passageway through which they'd fallen—an escape route, perhaps.
But as darkness receded, a new threat materialized at the far end of the massive chamber. A massive dark entity coalesced from shadows, its presence accompanied by an earsplitting screech that made teeth ache. Jeane's wings ruffled instinctively, her demonic heritage screaming warnings even as the wizard's dispel neutralized the immediate trap.
"Huh," the succubus growled, her crimson eyes fixed on the emerging entity. "The little wizard actually pulled it off. Good on her." But her voice carried an undercurrent of suspicion—ancient magic rarely cooperated so easily without... consequences. The sword on the altar began to glow with an otherworldly intensity, and Jeane's stomach twisted with premonition.
"But that thing's definitely pissed now—can you feel it?" She scanned the chamber, looking for new threats or escape routes. When ancient shit wakes up, it usually brings friends, she thought grimly. Stay sharp, something told her—this was far from over.
Seraphine, meanwhile, felt a surge of relief as the trap dissolved—but it was tempered by suspicion. The drain of malevolent energy was too easy, too clean after such an ominous setup. And now this new entity... Her sharp elven eyes tracked its movement, mind racing to identify its nature and potential weaknesses.
The wizard's gaze flicked between Jeane, the newly visible passage, and the glowing sword at the center of the chamber. Find an exit or communicate with Varrika and Halie above—those were her immediate priorities. But first, they needed to understand—and survive—the consequences of Seraphine's dispel.
