As Seraphine hesitates, her hand still raised to stop me, I feel a sudden jolt of adrenaline coursing through my veins. The growling sounds behind us have grown almost deafening, and the wet tearing sound has become a rhythmic drumbeat that seems to be counting down our time. I glance up at the pulsing light emanating from the corridor, and my heart skips a beat as I realize that it's growing brighter by the second. The air around me seems to vibrate with an otherworldly energy, and I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end. "Seraphine," I say, my voice firm but laced with urgency. "I think we need to move now."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane's wings beat rapidly, her crimson eyes scanning the pulsing corridor ahead as she considers Seraphine's hesitation. Every moment we stand here debating is another moment those things catch up to us. The growling sound behind them intensifies, and Jeane can feel vibrations through the stone floor. She reaches out with her bloodline magic, trying to sense what pursues them. Whatever was sealed in that chamber... it's not just undead. It's something else entirely, something ancient and powerful enough to feed off the tower itself. She turns back to Seraphine, her expression grave but determined.

Look at this place—everything here is alive somehow. The walls pulse, the floor moves, even the air feels like... skin. Jeane gestures around them with a sweep of her arm. This corridor might be its stomach or intestines or whatever passes for those in a sentient tower. But staying put means we get digested along with this entire chamber. Another violent shudder runs through the stone around them, and dust rains down from above.

We don't have time to discuss every possibility. Jeane's hand hovers over her crossbow. Either we take our chances forward or we wait here to become part of this thing's... nutrition. I know which option I prefer. She moves closer to Seraphine, her voice dropping to an urgent whisper.

If you have a better idea or something you're not saying about those glowing eyes back there, now is the time. Otherwise, we move on three—one, two...

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I look at Jeane, her crimson eyes reflecting the pulsing light from the corridor ahead. The urgency in her voice is palpable, and I know she's right. We have no time to debate this further. Whatever was sealed in that chamber is coming for us, and it’s clear now that this entire tower is some kind of living, breathing entity.
My hand moves away from the strange door handle as I take a step back, my heart pounding in my chest. The growling behind us has become a constant rumble, a low, menacing vibration that seems to be coming from everywhere at once.
"You're right," I say, my voice so quiet it's almost lost in the air. "We can't stay here."
I turn back towards the corridor, the air growing thicker and hotter with each passing second. The metallic scent is overwhelming now, clinging to the back of my throat like rusted copper. I can feel a faint vibration under my feet, a steady rhythm that seems to be counting down something ominous.
"I just... I hope we're not walking into something worse," I mutter, more to myself than to Jeane. My fingers twitch at my sides, ready to cast a spell if needed. I take a deep breath, trying to calm the frantic hammering of my heart, and nod towards the glinting handle set into the organic wall.
"Let's see what's on the other side of that door. And be ready for anything."
