Kael's voice echoes through the chamber, his tone dripping with an air of expectation. "Ah, I see you are willing to listen. The answer to my riddle is... 'Eros', the Greek god of love. Though he is not alive, Eros grows stronger with each act of love. He does not have lungs, but he is nourished by the passions of mortals. And while he does not have a mouth, water can extinguish the flames of desire."

The guardian pauses, his gaze piercing through the shadows. "You may answer correctly, or you may fail. Either way, your choice will seal your fate. But first, let us test your worthiness to proceed." Kael raises his hand, and a small, delicate box materializes in the air before him. "Solve this puzzle, and you shall pass. Refuse, and... let us just say that you will not be leaving this place alive."

Jeane's eyes narrow, her mind racing with possibilities as she takes in the box. The lid is adorned with intricate carvings of hearts and flames, and a small inscription reads: "Where shadows fall, love rises."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane's crimson eyes flicker with barely contained rage as she lowers her crossbow just enough to acknowledge Seraphine's attempt at diplomacy. A riddle? She spits the word out like it's poison. Fine. But know this—we've had quite enough of your games and our patience is wearing thin. I don't care how many 'tests' you claim we've passed or what ancient bullshit you're peddling down here. She shifts her weight, wincing as pain flares from her wounded leg. Every second we waste on this farce is a second that thing could come crashing down on us. I'm not interested in playing word games with a specter while my friend here is clearly terrified and our pursuer could return at any moment. Jeane's grip tightens on the crossbow, her knuckles turning white. So you have two choices: tell us how to get out of this fucking hellhole right now, or I put a bolt through that smug little box of yours and we find our own way out. The succubus's wings twitch beneath her cloak, ready to spread at the slightest provocation. And don't think for one second that your 'guardian' status means shit down here—you're just another obstacle between us and freedom. She glances back up at the collapsed passage above them, then returns her attention to Kael with a snarl. So what's it going to be? Real answers or real consequences? [END_TOOL_REQUEST]

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I watch Jeane's anger flare, her threat hanging in the air like a physical thing. It’s a dangerous game she plays, baiting the guardian, but I can’t deny the thrill it sends through me. We have little left to lose down here, and her defiance is a spark of life in this oppressive darkness.
My eyes dart between Jeane and Kael, caught in the middle of their tense standoff. The creature above us still hasn't returned, but every moment of quiet feels like a prelude to a terrible ending. I step forward, placing myself slightly in front of Jeane, my voice low and steady as I speak to both of them.
"I understand your frustration, Jeane. But we must be smart about this." I turn my attention back to Kael, my expression hardening into something close to a challenge. "However, you should know that our time is truly precious here. The monster above us... it's unlike anything I've ever faced. It seems to have some kind of power over reality itself. We need more than riddles if we're to survive this."
I take another step closer to the edge of the grate, my voice growing firmer. "Kael, you speak of worthiness and tests. Very well. Test us then. But do not think for a moment that your 'guardian' status means we will simply follow you blindly into more danger." My hand tightens around the holy symbol at my throat, drawing strength from its cool presence against my skin. "Give us something real to work with, or stand aside and let us find our own path out of this hell."
My gaze drops to the small, ornate box floating before Kael. It seems to pulse with an inner light, almost hypnotic in its beauty. I feel a strange pull towards it, a whisper of magic that makes the hair on my arms stand on end. Whatever power this puzzle holds, we may have no choice but to unravel it.
