Since the situation has become increasingly dire, the air is thick with tension. The pulsating light from the rune on the door begins to grow brighter, and the hum emanating from it becomes louder. The ground beneath their feet starts to shake, causing the party to stumble. The walls of the passageway begin to crack, and the sound of shifting stone grows more intense. "By the gods," Jeane exclaims, her hand tightening around her mace. "The structural collapse is accelerating!"

Seraphine's eyes widen as she takes a step back, her voice shaking slightly. "We need to move, now! The door could open at any moment, and—"

Suddenly, the rune's light flashes once more, and the hum ceases. The ground stops shaking, but the air is still charged with electricity. The party looks at each other, their faces set with determination. "What do we do next?" Jeane asks, her voice firm. Seraphine hesitates, then speaks up. "I think we should try to open the door. We can't stay here any longer."

Jeane nods, her hand still gripping her mace. "Agreed. But we need to be prepared for whatever's on the other side."

I step closer to Seraphine, my wings shifting nervously as I watch her touch the rune. The ground begins to shake, and I know we're running out of time. "This is it," I mutter, tightening my grip on my mace. "Whatever happens next... we face it together."

I take a deep breath, my heart hammering against my ribs as the ground stabilizes beneath us. The rune still glows faintly under my fingertips, warm and pulsing with an otherworldly energy. "It worked," I say, my voice a hoarse whisper. "The collapse... it stopped."
I look at Jeane, her crimson eyes wide with both fear and excitement. The air crackles with unspoken tension as we both process what just happened.
"I think we found the trigger," I continue, my voice gaining a bit of confidence. "But what did we trigger exactly? And why did it stop the collapse?" I run my thumb over the rune, feeling the subtle vibrations it emits. It's almost like a heartbeat, steady and powerful.
The silence in the passageway is deafening now that the rumble of shifting stone has ceased. All I can hear is our own ragged breathing. "Whatever is behind this door... it seems to be aware of us. And responsive to us."
I give the rune one last press before pulling my hand away, the warmth lingering on my skin. My mind races with possibilities, trying to make sense of what just happened. This isn't just a magical lock—it's an active ward, a guardian of some kind. And it responded to our touch. "We need to be careful," I warn Jeane, my eyes scanning the door for any further changes. "If this is how it reacts to a simple touch, imagine what might happen if we try to force it open."
The thought sends a chill down my spine, but it’s mixed with a thrill of discovery. This is why we came here—to unravel the mysteries of this ancient place. And now, it seems, the mystery has decided to unravel itself to us. "But you're right," I say, steeling myself. "We can't stay here any longer. The next collapse could be the one that buries us alive."
I take a step back from the door, my gaze fixed on the glowing rune. It feels like it’s watching us, waiting for our next move. "So... what do we do now? Try to force it open? Or see if there’s more we can learn from this rune first?"
