Phase: escalating

As Sister Hale finished her words, the ground shuddered once more, the fourth pulse of the sequence coming to an end. The air seemed to vibrate with anticipation as the three remaining pulses of the sequence began to build in intensity. Silra's eyes were fixed on the glowing rune, her grip on her dagger tightening. Gravedigger Renn cowered further into the corner, his terror-smell wafting up towards the trio.

The cellar air went terribly wrong - not just dusty and decaying stone wrong, but something that made my teeth ache. That pulse wasn't slowing down because it was stabilizing; it was building toward something. The ground shuddered under me like a living thing shaking off sleep, and I stumbled back against the wall hard enough to knock the wind out of me. Those runes on the wall - they're not pulsing anymore, they're flashing in some kind of frantic code that doesn't look friendly.

Sister Hale's voice cut through the tension as she spoke, her words measured and deliberate. The air shifted, pressure building before an explosion or a collapse. The ground pulsed underfoot like breathing metal, and she felt it through her boots: something below them was conscious now, measuring Intent with deliberate attention. Silra's right about the timing - that sequence wasn't random rhythm; it was counting down to something specific.

As Sister Hale finished laying the last line of silver dust, a sense of foreboding settled over the group. The cellar door loomed before them, dark and foreboding, its presence seeming to draw the light out of the room. Outside, the storm intensified, and the air grew heavier with tension as Gravedigger Renn's fear seemed to seep into the very atmosphere.
