The air was heavy with the stench of terror-smell as Sister Hale knelt beside Gravedigger Renn, her silver holy symbol casting a faint glow on the walls of the tunnel system. Silra crouched low over the pressure plates, her movements precise as she tapped the one that responded slower than others. The ground continued to pulse beneath them—THRUM-THRUM-THUD—and the runes on the sarcophagi shrieked louder with every spike of fear from Gravedigger Renn's convulsing body.

"Broken, or deliberately less sensitive because whatever's buried down there doesn't want micro-adjustments triggering it," Silra whispered urgently to Sister Hale. "Plates are responding rhythmically now—THRUM-THRUM-THUD—which means we're definitely being measured, probably under evaluation by something ancient..." The cleric's eyes were fixed on the pressure plates as she adjusted her stance fractionally off each one at a time, feeling them stabilize under her. Sister Hale's hands fluttered over the holy symbol as she sought a way to soothe Gravedigger Renn's panic-smell.

The ground trembled beneath them, each THRUM-THRUM-THUD echoing through the passageway like a countdown to some ancient, malevolent purpose. The runes on the sarcophagi shrieked louder with every spike of fear from Gravedigger Renn, and Silra carefully looped the 50 feet of rope around her shoulder, the silver-blonde hair tied back in a practical knot. As the pressure plates responded to their adjustments, Sister Hale's face hardened by duty, her steady eyes fixed on the task at hand.
