The chamber hung in an oppressive silence, punctuated only by the steady pulse of the ground beneath their feet. Sister Hale shifted her weight carefully off the pressure plates, her silver holy symbol glinting in the dim light as she regarded Silra thoughtfully. "This silence is deliberate," she said, her voice measured and calm, "whatever's buried down there isn't just reacting; it's choosing when to speak and when to remain silent for effect."

Jeane's eyes narrowed as she stepped onto the pressure plates, each one feeling wrong underfoot like walking on skin rather than stone. The ground pulsed rhythmically: THRUM-THRUM-THUD*, steady as a heartbeat counting down seconds before something awakened fully. Gravedigger Renn's panic-smell contaminating the air – his fear might be what this thing fed on, and Jeane wouldn't risk their position for his nerves.

Silra, meanwhile, had positioned herself along the chamber wall, her eyes fixed intently on the glowing runes. The three-pulse rhythm pulsed through the chamber, echoing off the stone sarcophagi like a warning bell, its ominous light casting an eerie glow on the faces of her companions. As she tested the pressure point nearest her again, more carefully this time, the runes seemed to pulse in sync with the ground vibrations, casting long shadows across the chamber like grasping fingers.
