As the trio ventured deeper into the tunnel system, the air grew thick with a putrid stench that clung to their skin like a shroud. Sister Hale's cleric senses recoiled from the musky salt smell, mixing with Gravedigger Renn's fear-sweat into a noxious cocktail that choked her nostrils. She glanced around, searching for any sign of movement or change in the ground pattern, but all she saw was the steady three-pulse rhythm beneath their feet. The bioluminescent walls pulsed faster, and the humming noise grew louder, as if whatever lay ahead was responding to their presence.

Silra's eyes narrowed, her rogue senses on high alert. She tracked every tell: the walls pulsing faster in time with their movement, the wrong musky salt smell growing stronger, Gravedigger Renn's fear-smell mixing with it all into something almost familiar. It reminded her of the Old City charnel houses after months of neglect, where rot and decay had consumed everything in their path. The ground thrums beneath her boots felt deliberate, as if someone was counting them down into a territory that didn't welcome intruders.

Sister Hale gripped her holy symbol tighter, her mind racing with possibilities. This wasn't natural; this was communication, or at least signaling. She knew from experience that nothing made rhythms like that. The ground pulses beneath them in three deliberate beats, and she steeled herself for what lay ahead. "Stay close formation," she cautioned, her voice firm but laced with a hint of fear. "If this turns into an ambush, we transition as a unified unit, rather than scattering."
