As the trio stood before the rusted gate, the storm-dark sky seemed to press down upon them, its ominous presence a stark contrast to the faint glow of the setting sun. The air was heavy with the acrid scent of smoke and decay, and the distant rumble of thunder growled through the sky like a restless beast. Jeane, her crimson eyes fixed intently on the gate, summoned Silra and Hale to test its barrier. "You two, test this barrier," she commanded coolly, her voice cutting through the tense atmosphere.

Silra approached warily, her teal eyes scanning every inch of rusted metal and shadowed space between the bars. She noted the creaking sign overhead - it's too perfectly timed for simple wind - and the scuttling sounds beneath the road, a sound that sent a shiver down her spine. "Jeane," she called back without turning around, voice dry, "this is not a sleeping church. Something is very much awake here." Her fingers traced the spikes Hale mentioned; they're designed to swing inward with sickening efficiency.

Sister Hale, meanwhile, knelt at the wall's base, her fingers tracing the rough stonework. The gate's rust was fresh in places - someone maintained this barrier. She looked up at the creaking sign overhead, then back at Silra and Jeane. "This isn't abandonment," she said quietly, her voice laced with a sense of foreboding. "This is containment." Her unholy symbol caught a fading ray of sunlight through the ash-heavy air. The rusted key from a dead magistrate, still clutched in Jeane's hand, seemed to pulse with an otherworldly energy, as if urging them forward into the unknown.
