The air was heavy with tension as Sister Hale pulled back against the unseen force, her eyes blazing with determination as she locked gazes with Gravedigger Renn. "Tell us now," she demanded, her voice firm despite the fear threatening to overwhelm her. The massive chitinous limb continued its relentless assault on the stone, sending ash and debris flying in rhythmic bursts as it clawed at the ground mere inches from their faces.
Gravedigger Renn's frantic gestures seemed to hold the only thing keeping them tethered to reality, his voice barely above a whisper as he asked, "What's going on?" Sister Hale seized the opportunity, her words slicing through the tension like a hot blade. "We need answers," she spat, her eyes blazing with determination.
As she spoke, the brick she had pried loose from the wall clattered to the ground, revealing a small, hidden compartment beneath it. A piece of parchment slipped out, fluttering in the wind as Sister Hale twisted her body, trying to get a good look at what was holding her back. The massive chitinous limb's claws scratched against the stone, its rhythmic bursts of ash spilling out in time with the scuttling noise growing louder, more insistent.
The unknown force behind the pull held firm, but Sister Hale's grip on her unholy symbol tightened as she struggled to break free. She knew they were getting close to something important, and whatever was down there under the city was determined to keep them from finding out what it was.
