Phase: escalating

The creature's eyes bulged with unnatural hunger as it spoke again, its voice dripping with malevolence. "Welcome, sorcerer," it repeated, its gaze fixed on Jeane with an unblinking intensity. Silra shifted to Jeane's flank, her dagger at the ready but held low, as if preparing for a strike that might never come. Gravedigger Renn cowered behind them, his eyes wide with fear.
Jeane stepped forward, her voice calm despite the shivers coursing down her spine. "I am Jeane," she said, her eyes locked on the creature, "and I seek knowledge of Gravehill's secrets." The key in her hand pulsed with heat, its approval evident as the creature spoke again. Its sickly sweet tone made her skin crawl, but there was something about it that drew her in, a promise of forbidden knowledge.
Silra watched the creature warily, her mind racing with theories and possibilities. She had seen enough conjuration magic to recognize this for what it was – a low-level trick, but one that could be deadly if not handled properly. The key's pulse grew stronger as the creature spoke, its power coursing through Jeane like a lifeline. Silra kept her dagger ready, prepared to intervene at a moment's notice, though she couldn't shake the feeling that they were in this together now – bound by some unseen force that threatened to consume them all.
