Hera lunged, her fingers closing around the cool glass neck of the lubricant bottle just before Jeane’s electrical discharge could fully arc across the room. The bottle came away slick and wet, already coated in something viscous and translucent—Jeane’s own fluids, perhaps, or some other substance designed to conduct electricity. Hera didn’t hesitate.
“Abby is in there,” she growled, her voice barely containing the rage simmering beneath the surface. “I’m not leaving her to whatever this... creature has planned.” She took another step forward, seemingly oblivious to the way Silra tensed at her side, ready to intervene if needed. The air crackled with tension, electricity, and something else—something darker that seemed to seep from Jeane’s every pore.
“I don’t care about your little games or your fucking barrier,” Hera continued, her amber eyes blazing with fierce determination. “You’re not keeping me from her.” She brandished the bottle like a weapon, the slick surface catching what little light remained in the corridor. It was clear she intended to use it as more than just a shield—she meant to breach that barrier, consequences be damned.
Silra watched the exchange with barely contained frustration, her hand resting on the hilt of a concealed blade. She knew Hera’s impulsiveness could get them all killed, but she also understood the woman’s desperation. The penthouse suite lay just beyond Jeane’s electrical field, and within it... Abby. What had that succubus done to her? What was happening right now?
Jeane’s expression remained unreadable, a mask of feigned innocence that fooled no one. Her wings flexed again, sending a cascade of blue sparks dancing across the floor. “Darling,” she purred, her voice dripping with false concern, “that bottle won’t protect you from what’s waiting inside.” But Hera was already moving, her grip tightening on the makeshift weapon as she prepared to charge into the heart of the storm.
The corridor seemed to close in around them, the very air thick with anticipation and the stench of sex and electricity. Somewhere beyond Jeane’s barrier, muffled sounds could be heard—the rhythmic thud of flesh against flesh, a woman’s voice crying out in what might have been pleasure or pain. Hera’s jaw clenched.
“Move,” she said, her voice low and dangerous. “Or I’ll make you move.”
Silra shifted her weight, ready to spring into action if needed. She knew better than to argue with Hera when the woman got like this—fierce, protective, and utterly unreasonable in her determination. But something in Jeane’s words nagged at her, a seed of doubt planted by the succubus’s manipulation.
“I don’t think—” she began, but Hera cut her off with a sharp gesture.
“I said move,” Hera repeated, her eyes never leaving Jeane’s face. “This ends now.”
The bottle in her hand felt heavy, slick with more than just lubricant now. It was coated in her own sweat, her own fear and rage made manifest. And as she prepared to charge forward, the weight of her decision settled over her like a shroud.
This was it—the moment of truth. Would she save Abby, or would she play right into Jeane’s hands? The answer lay just beyond that shimmering barrier of electricity and lies.
