Silra moved with calculated precision, inserting herself between the terrified young woman and the source of the sudden tension. Her teal eyes remained fixed on Jeane, studying every subtle shift in posture, every flicker of expression. The penthouse suite had become a stage for this unexpected drama, the air thick with unspoken questions and simmering suspicion.

"You're right," Jeane replied, her voice soft but carrying easily across the sudden silence. "They weren't visible before. But then again, neither were your pointed ears, Silra." She gestured casually towards the elf's distinctive features. "We all have... unusual parts of our anatomies. Mine simply took a moment to reveal themselves."

Silra's hand drifted closer to her concealed blade, though the motion was subtle enough that only someone intimately familiar with her habits would notice. "And what exactly are those wings capable of?" she asked, each word carefully chosen. "Because from everything I've read about your kind, 'unusual anatomy' is a bit of an understatement."

Jeane's smile didn't quite reach her eyes as she spread her wings slightly, the iridescent membranes catching the light. "Oh, Silra," she said, her tone almost playful despite the tension, "they're just for flying. Nothing dangerous at all." She turned her attention to Abby, her expression softening. "Darling, I promise you, I mean no harm. Those wings are simply part of who I am."

The young woman flinched visibly as Jeane addressed her directly, pressing herself back against Hera's chest. Silra's jaw tightened, a low growl rumbling in her throat. "Jeane," she snapped, "stop right there. You're not helping the situation." She glanced at Hera, noting the conflicted expression on her face. "Both of you, just... take a step back and give Abby some space."

Jeane's wings folded against her back once more, a small sigh escaping her lips. "As you wish, Silra," she said, complying but clearly frustrated by the interruption. She moved to one side of the room, putting distance between herself and the newcomers.

Silra turned her full attention to Hera and Abby then, her expression shifting to something more conciliatory. "Look," she began, her voice softer now, "I know this is a lot to take in. But we're not going to hurt you." She held out one hand in a gesture of peace. "Why don't we all just... talk? Figure out what's happening here?"

Hera's grip on Abby tightened momentarily before she seemed to catch herself, loosening her hold slightly. The young woman looked up at her with wide, frightened eyes, clearly torn between fear and curiosity. Silra could see the internal struggle playing out across Abby's face - the part of her that wanted to run screaming versus the part that was too intrigued to leave.

"Talking sounds good," Hera said slowly, her voice rough with barely contained anger. "But I'm not sure I like being ambushed in what's supposed to be a private party." She glared at Jeane. "Care to explain why you didn't mention the whole 'winged monster' thing when we agreed to this?"

Jeane's expression flickered between amusement and exasperation. "Darling, I never claimed to be human," she replied, her tone light but with an underlying edge. "As for ambushing... well, perhaps if you'd been more forthcoming about bringing along a terrified virgin, I could have prepared everyone properly."

The tension in the room seemed to ratchet up another notch, and Silra found herself moving subtly, positioning herself where she could intercept either Jeane or Hera if things escalated. This was rapidly spiraling out of control, and someone needed to take charge before fists - or worse - started flying.

"Enough," she said firmly, her voice cutting through the rising discord. "We're not getting anywhere like this." She fixed each person with a stern look in turn. "Jeane, you need to explain exactly what's going on here. Hera and Abby deserve to know what they're mixed up in. And everyone else," she glanced around at the other partygoers who had fallen silent, watching the drama unfold, "needs to decide if they want to stay or leave."

The room seemed to hold its breath as everyone waited for someone to break the silence. Jeane opened her mouth to speak, but Silra held up a hand, stopping her mid-sentence. "But first," she continued, her voice dropping to a dangerous tone, "everyone puts their phones away. Now." Her teal eyes scanned the room, daring anyone to defy her. "We're going to have an honest conversation about what this party really is, and I don't want any of it ending up on social media tomorrow."

The command hung in the air, a clear statement that Silra was taking control of the situation. She could feel the tension in her own body, the familiar weight of responsibility settling over her shoulders. This wasn't how she'd envisioned the night going, but then again, much of her life had veered far from her original plans.

For now, though, she needed to focus on damage control. Keep everyone calm, extract the truth from Jeane, and somehow protect Abby while managing Hera's temper. Simple enough, right? Silra almost laughed at the thought. Nothing about this situation was simple, but she'd faced worse odds before. And at least this time, she knew exactly what her priorities were.

Jeane.
