Round 34

Phase: escalating

Silra moved with practiced ease through the writhing bodies, her teal eyes never leaving the succubus across the room. The elf's hand rested casually near the small of her back where her blade should have been—had been, before entering this cursed penthouse and its insidious wards. She positioned herself between the enraged human woman and the target of her fury, a predator intercepting another predator.
"Easy now," Silra purred, voice dripping with disdain she didn't bother to hide. "No need to start a war just because your ego was bruised." Her gaze flickered past Hera to Jeane, noting the way the succubus stood ready despite Hera's verbal assault—muscles tensed beneath flawless skin, wings half-spread in a subtle display of power. This wasn't going to end well if someone didn't leash this human's temper.
Hera stood her ground, jaw set in stubborn determination. "You stay away from her," she hissed, nodding toward the cowering civilian behind them. Silra sighed internally—of course Hera had to make this personal. The human woman's protective instincts were admirable but utterly misplaced when aimed at a succubus.
"Oh darling," came Jeane's voice from across the room, smooth and inviting despite the tension. "There's no need for such hostility." The succubus took another small step back, raising her hands in a placating gesture that somehow managed to emphasize the curves of her body rather than soothe. "Why don't we all take a moment to... adjust to the atmosphere? The night is young, and there's plenty of fun to be had."
Silra's expression remained unreadable as she watched the exchange, hand still resting near the concealed blade beneath her jacket. The atmosphere in the room seemed to crackle with tension, the sounds of ongoing orgiastic activities a stark contrast to the icy standoff playing out between the three women.
Meanwhile, Hera stood protectively in front of Abby, her posture rigid despite the lingering effects of the aphrodisiac-laced champagne still thrumming through her veins. She met Jeane's gaze with narrowed eyes, searching for any sign of deception in those amber irises.
Abby herself remained huddled up against the wall, her wide brown eyes fixed on the unfolding drama before her. The succubus' lips curved into something that might be a smile or a predatory grin, and she took another small step back, raising her hands in a placating gesture that somehow managed to emphasize the curves of her body rather than soothe. "Oh darling," Jeane purred, addressing Hera directly now. "There's no need for such hostility. I assure you, Abby is... simply overwhelmed by all this." Her gaze flickered briefly to Silra before returning to Hera. "Why don't we all take a moment to... adjust to the atmosphere? The night is young, and there's plenty of fun to be had."
Silra watched the exchange with growing unease. This was exactly the kind of manipulation she'd been expecting from the succubus—feigned innocence mixed with subtle psychological pressure. She needed to intervene before Hera did something irrevocably stupid.
"Hera," Silra said sharply, drawing the human's attention away from Jeane. "Remember our objective. We're here for information, not a fight." Her eyes darted meaningfully toward Abby, still cowering against the wall. "Let me handle this."
But before Hera could respond, a sudden commotion near the penthouse entrance caught everyone's attention. The sound of raised voices filtered through the door—angry, insistent, and getting louder by the second. Someone was arguing with the bouncers outside, demanding entry.
Jeane's head tilted slightly, her expression shifting from predatory amusement to something more calculating. She took another step back, moving toward a group of nearby partygoers still engaged in their own activities. "Excuse me for a moment," she said smoothly. "It seems we have unexpected guests." With that, the succubus melted into the crowd, her wings folding against her back and disappearing from sight.
Silra cursed under her breath, watching Jeane vanish into the press of bodies. Losing visual contact with the primary threat was never ideal, but dealing with whatever—or whoever—was causing that commotion outside took priority now. She turned to face Hera and Abby, her expression serious.
"Stay close," Silra ordered, already moving toward the door. "And be ready to move if things go sideways."
