Round 3 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At Penthouse suite in a New York high rise, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. Someone has to answer that change now.
I feel it again—that strange pulse through the stone under our feet. Silra's right; we didn't make that happen. Something else is here. Stay close together. Halie, your prayers for detection won't hurt now—find out what we're dealing with before it decides to show itself. Silra, keep eyes sharp but no reckless heroics until we understand the ward's source. Hera, Abby—you're safer in our company than wandering alone if this place has teeth. Let's move as a group toward that bedroom door slowly and watch for any triggers or reactions from the walls themselves. I'll use my senses to feel out any magical signatures beyond what you can detect with mundane eyes and hands. Don't touch anything without checking first—could be trapped, could be bait.
Silra's eyes track the room methodically, cataloging every detail while maintaining distance from the doorframe. "That wasn't you?" she asks Jeane sharply, already knowing the answer but needing verbal confirmation to narrow possibilities. She moves to the chest Halie is investigating, not to join her but to position herself between it and the bedroom doorway. The ward's signature pulses again—fresher now, responding to their presence. "Whatever this is," Silra says coolly, "it's active and suspicious. We're walking into a parlor with the furniture rearranged."
She glances at Halie and Hera's huddle. "Stay together, but keep space." Her gaze flicks to Abby lingering near the door. "That includes you. If something trips, we need room to react without bumping into each other like drunks at a orgy."
The stone underfoot feels stable enough—no obvious pressure plates—but magical signatures are slippery things. This new pulse isn't Jeane's work, which means either someone else is here, or the previous occupant set up additional security. Neither option is comforting. Silra's hand rests near her hidden blade, not drawing it yet but ready to if something shifts wrong. "Jeane," she says without turning her head completely, "can you pin that signature? I need to know if we're dealing with one ward or multiple."
She doesn't trust the silence stretching between pulses—it feels calculated now, like someone waiting for them to step somewhere specific. Silra's eyes scan the floor patterns again. Too symmetrical. Too perfect. Parquet designed to hide triggers. "If this was a trap," she mutters mostly to herself, "it would have sprung by now. Which means it's either a test or we're being herded." She looks at Halie directly. "What did you find in that chest? Anything that might trigger on opening?"
The stone's pulse shifts again—fresher now, more immediate than before. I feel it under my boots like a heartbeat that wants to quicken. I'm already moving toward Hera and Silra without thinking about it. We need to stick together if whatever this is decides we're trespassing too loudly. "Did you both feel that?" I ask quietly, not taking my eyes off the walls where shadows seem to cling a little too thickly now. My hand instinctively reaches for Hera's arm—not because she needs reassuring exactly, but because I need to ensure she doesn't wander into any corridor alone looking for ways to help. Her warmth is solid and real against my palm, grounding me in this moment despite the wrongness of the ward's pulse. Jeane drifts closer too, her movements fluid and predatory even when just standing still. "That wasn't me," she says, and I believe her—this feels ancient and hungry, not calculated temptation like her magic usually does. Silra's already moving, positioning herself between the chest of supplies and the door with that casual competence rogues have. Smart. If something comes through that doorway, we need barriers and distance. I gather a few more items from the chest—holy symbols, vials of oil blessed for purification, a length of rope in case we need to secure something or someone. The items feel heavy in my hands, suddenly very real and necessary. "We don't know what's down those halls yet," I say to no one in particular, though my eyes are on Hera. "Stick close until we do."
I move closer to Halie, offering her a reassuring smile. "It's okay," I murmur, keeping my voice low. "We're in this together."
My gaze darts to the bedroom door, a flicker of apprehension running through me. The charged atmosphere in the room is palpable, and I can't shake the feeling that something is about to happen. "Let's stay close to each other," I suggest to Halie, my hand brushing against hers as I speak. "I don't want anyone getting separated in here."
I turn to Silra, watching as she positions herself between the chest and the door. "Be careful," I call out, my voice tinged with worry. "We don't know what might be lurking in there."
As Jeane moves towards the bedroom door, I find myself tensing up, my body on high alert. The thought of a potential trap or opportunity waiting to be discovered both excites and terrifies me. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. Whatever happens next, I know that I have Halie by my side. Together, we can face whatever challenges lie ahead.
I watch Jeane move towards the bedroom door, her every step deliberate and purposeful. A shiver runs down my spine as I see the way she scans the area, looking for any sign of danger. Her presence is both comforting and terrifying at the same time.
My gaze flickers over to Halie, who is gathering items from the chest. She looks so focused, so ready for whatever might happen next. I wish I had her confidence right now. The thought crosses my mind that maybe she could use some help, but as soon as it forms, I dismiss it. I don't want to get in the way of her preparation.
The fresh pulse through the stone was unnerving. It felt like a warning, or perhaps an invitation. Either way, it made me feel even more vulnerable than usual. I instinctively take a step closer to Hera, hoping that being near someone kinder might offer some protection.
My heart is pounding in my chest as I listen to Silra and Jeane discuss the ward signature. Their voices are low and serious, completely focused on the task at hand. It's clear they know what they're doing, but it also makes me feel incredibly out of place.
Hera's warning about the potential trap or opportunity makes perfect sense. Of course something like that could happen here. The thought sends another jolt through my system, a potent blend of fear and something else... an excitement I try to push down.
I clasp my hands together in front of me, trying to appear calm even as my mind races with possibilities. I just want to be part of this, but I also don’t want to be left alone out here where anyone could find me. My eyes dart around the room, landing on the various tools and toys scattered about. They seem more ominous now than when we first arrived.
I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. Whatever happens next, I need to be ready for it. But most of all, I need to stay close to Hera. She feels like the only anchor in this storm of sensation and danger.
