Round 3

Phase: escalating

The ward's pulse shifted again—fresher now, more immediate than before. Everyone felt it through the stone floor like a heartbeat that wanted to quicken. The pressure in the room changed instantly from waiting anticipation to immediate risk assessment.
Jeane moved to center stage with her usual purposeful stride, already scanning for threats visible or otherwise. "I feel it again—that strange pulse through the stone under our feet," she said, her crimson eyes tracking invisible currents. "Silra's right; we didn't make that happen." She wasn't asking questions yet, just establishing baseline parameters. "Stay close together. Halie, your prayers for detection won't hurt now—find out what we're dealing with before it decides to show itself. Silra, keep eyes sharp but no reckless heroics until we understand the..." Her voice trailed off as she focused on something only her succubus senses could perceive.
Silra had already moved into a better tactical position near the doorframe, her silver-blonde hair catching the light as she turned to face everyone. "That wasn't you?" she asked Jeane sharply, needing verbal confirmation even though she knew the answer. Her teal eyes were narrowed in suspicion, not fear—she was calculating odds and angles, not cowering. She didn't move closer to the chest where Halie was working until she had a clear line of sight and multiple escape routes mapped.
Halie felt the pulse shift again as soon as Silra confirmed it wasn't their doing. She moved toward Hera instinctively, her blue-grey eyes wide with concern. "Did you both feel that?" she asked quietly, already positioning herself between potential threats and her companions. Her fingers traced the outline of a sacred symbol unconsciously.
Hera moved closer to Halie without hesitation, offering a reassuring smile despite the tension in her jaw. "It's okay," she murmured, keeping her voice low. "We're in this together." Her amber eyes darted to the bedroom door and back, a flicker of apprehension running through her. The charged atmosphere in the room was palpable, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to happen. "Let's stay close to each other," she said firmly, not wanting to show fear but needing the group to maintain cohesion.
Abby stayed near the wall opposite the door, her wide brown eyes fixed on Jeane's movements. She watched every deliberate step, every scan of the room, and felt both comforted by the succubus's presence and terrified by what that presence might be needed for. Her fingers twisted nervously in the fabric of her oversized uniform as she tried to control her breathing.
The ward pulsed again—stronger this time—and everyone in the room tensed simultaneously. The stakes had just been raised from potential danger to active unknown threat, and no one was prepared to play it casual anymore.
