Round 193

Phase: converging · forced · organic escalating

The building's structure screams under strain as the floor buckles and concrete groans like a dying beast. Dust chokes the air, thick and grey and clinging to everything—Hera's skin glistening with corruption sweat, Halie's hair matted against her forehead from exertion, Silra's exposed throat as she descends into darkness below. The wardstone pulses again, faster now, sending visible ripples through the barrier Jeane maintains with trembling arms and gritted teeth. Her wings beat once in panic before she forces them still—control is everything right now, especially when every instinct screams to abandon this cursed place immediately.
"Ninety seconds!" Halie shouts back, her voice strained from pressing against the door. "Maybe less! The frame's cracking—I can feel it giving way!" She braces harder, mirror slipping on the slick floor coated in spilled lubricant and water flooding out from the ruined bathroom. Across the corridor, Hera sobs quietly, her body trembling as more of that viscous corruption seeps from her pores with each ragged breath.
Silra descends faster now, her feet finding purchase on rusted metal rungs as she listens above for Halie's response. The building groans louder—a sound that makes your teeth ache—and the floor tilts ominously beneath them. She needs to know if they have minutes or seconds before this whole damn place comes down on their heads. "Halie!" Silra calls out, her voice echoing in the confined space. "How long do we have? Ceiling giving way any time soon up there?"
The answer comes back strained and desperate: "Ninety seconds! Maybe less! The frame's cracking—I can feel it giving way!" Halie braces harder against the door, mirror slipping on the slick floor coated in spilled lubricant and water flooding out from the ruined bathroom. Across the corridor, Hera sobs quietly, her body trembling as more of that viscous corruption seeps from her pores with each ragged breath.
Jeane grits her teeth and pushes more power into the barrier spell, the dildo-shorted circuit sparking dangerously as demonic energy floods through it. Her wings beat once in panic before she forces them still—control is everything right now, especially when every instinct screams to abandon this cursed place immediately. The wardstone pulses again, faster now, sending visible ripples through her translucent magical construct.
"Two minutes!" Silra shouts up from below. "We can make it down if we move fast! Come on—into the service tunnel!" She extends a hand toward Halie, offering stability on the treacherous floor. The building groans again, louder this time—a sound like tearing metal and cracking concrete that makes everyone's blood run cold.
"Move!" Jeane screams, her voice cracking with effort as she maintains the barrier alone now. "Halie—get Hera and get down here NOW! I can't hold this much longer!"
The wardstone pulses again, faster still, and a fresh wave of corruption energy washes out through the door cracks like liquid darkness. Halie wrenches herself away from the frame just as a crack appears in the wood, mirror sliding across the floor to slam against the opposite wall. She grabs Hera's arm with her burned hands—screaming at the contact but driven by pure instinct—and hauls the corrupted woman toward the service tunnel entrance.
"NO!" Hera shrieks, fighting against Halie's grip with sudden strength. "Don't touch me! I'm contaminated—I'll kill you all!"
"Shut up and move!" Halie snarls back, dragging her anyway while tears of pain stream down her face from the burned hand contact. The ceiling above them groans ominously—concrete dust raining down as supports begin to give way.
Jeane's arms shake with the strain of holding the barrier alone, sweat mixing with demonic energy to run down her skin in glowing trails. Her wings beat frantically now, maintaining altitude against the tilting floor while pouring every last drop of power into keeping that wardstone contained. The spell flickers dangerously around the edges—one more pulse and it'll collapse completely.
"RUN!" she screams again, voice hoarse with exertion and terror. "Everyone down the tunnel NOW!"
The building chooses that exact moment to fail completely. With a sound like the world ending—a roar of tearing metal and shattering concrete—the floor beneath them gives way entirely. The entire corridor drops out from under their feet as the penthouse suite collapses into the floors below, taking everything with it in a cascading wave of destruction.
Jeane has just enough time to channel her wings to full power before they're all falling through empty space, the world dissolving around them into chaos and dust and the certainty that this is how they die—together, at least, but still utterly fucked.
