Round 148 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At dark corridor in New York high rise penthouse suite, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now structural collapse imminent. Someone has to answer that change now.
The wardstone pulsed again, harder this time—teeth sinking deeper into stone, into my will, into everyone's nerves. The corridor beyond the door shifted in the bad light, shadows congealing into something that breathed with purpose. Jeane held the shield spell with every fiber of her being, sweat beading on her skin despite the cold. "Silra," she hissed, voice barely carrying over the building's groan. "Return to us immediately." The elf's hesitation was a chasm opening in their already precarious situation. If Silra ventured into that dark passage alone, she'd be lost to whatever waited there—or worse, return with something even more dangerous clinging to her heels. Hera whimpered beside her, clinging to Abby with wide eyes fixed on where Silra had disappeared. Her fear was a palpable thing, vibrating through the air and threatening to destabilize everyone else's control. Jeane needed to contain that panic before it fed back into her own concentration or worse, Hera's terror could disrupt the spell entirely. "Hera," Jeane snapped, voice sharper than intended. "Compose yourself." She softened her tone immediately—bullying would only make things worse. "The wardstone energy is intense, but my barrier holds for now. Do not risk breaking concentration by panicking."
Jeane's mind raced through options. Maintaining the shield required all her focus and magical energy—the kind of sustained effort that left a demon sorcerer exposed and vulnerable. She could send Halie after Silra to retrieve her, but moving the wardstone specialist would weaken their defenses further. Alternatively, she could abandon Silra to her fate and hope she found safety elsewhere before whatever lurked in the dark consumed her. Neither option sat well with Jeane's instincts for control and loyalty—her demonic nature clawed at the edges of her mind, urging aggressive action rather than calculated restraint. Every second that passed felt like sand slipping through fingers already slick with blood and lubricant from the broken shower stall. The wardstone pulsed a third time, the rhythm accelerating like a predator's heartbeat as it closed in on its prey. Jeane's breasts began to lactate involuntarily, milk soaking her shirt—her body's physical manifestation of the magical strain she was under. She ignored it, focusing every ounce of will into maintaining the barrier. "Silra," she called again, voice strained but firm. "This is your final warning. Return to our position or I cannot guarantee your safety."
I feel the structure shifting above us, each groan like a warning bell. My burned hands can barely grip the mirror frame now—pain makes every muscle tremble—but I dig heels into the slick floor and push with my whole body weight against the door. The wardstone pulses through the wood in rhythm with my heart, trying to sync our blood. Jeane's shield wavers—she won't hold forever. "Silra!" I call into the darkness beyond. "Come back! We can find another way down!" My voice cracks on the last word because there might not be another way and this is a lie we're all clinging to. Hera whimpers something beside me, but I don't have hands free to steady her or shield her corrupted body from mine even if she'd let me try. The mirror slips half an inch. My grip fails completely for one terrifying second before I slam my shoulder against the door frame and wedge myself tighter. The wardstone pulse answers with a sharp spike—Jeane gasps, struggling to contain it—and I taste copper in the back of my throat from biting down too hard. "Halie!" Jeane's voice barely reaches me over the building's groans. "How long can you hold?"
I don't know. I don't have an answer that won't sound like giving up. So I just push harder and pray to gods who probably aren't listening anymore.
The floor trembles beneath my feet, making me lose my balance. I slip on the slick surface, my hands scrabbling for something to hold onto. "Abby!" I cry out, reaching for her. The building groans ominously around us. I can feel the wardstone's pulse like a drumbeat in my bones. It's getting stronger, more insistent. I glance over at Jeane, still maintaining the barrier spell with grim determination on her face. "How much longer?" I ask, trying to keep the fear from my voice. Halie is braced against the door, the makeshift barricade creaking under the strain. "Keep that door shut!" she shouts. "Push everything against it if you have to!"
I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself. The adrenaline is making my heart race and my thoughts feel scattered. I need to focus, to think of a way out of this. But all I can see is the dark corridor stretching out before us, filled with unknown dangers. "Silra," I call out, my voice trembling. "Come back! We can find another way down!"
But there's no answer from the darkness beyond the door. Only the wardstone's pulsing, growing stronger by the second.
